That's nasty - accurate, probably. There are some other interesting
features w/ regards to vacumn games, too.
For instance, do DFFGs suddenly start acting like lasers? In DS2, the
attenuation of damage is explained as a result mostly of air friction on the
bolt of energy. Remove the atmosphere, and do DFFGs treat everything out to
the visual horizon as Close range for damage effects?
Obviously, no hover vehicles - and on Luna, can grav vehicles leap over
mountains? Grav tanks w/ DFFG/5 - combat on vacumn low-grav worlds just
got a lot more dangerous!

More damned mindreading! I'm just re-reading this series (started Blue
Mars this afternoon, in fact, having finished Green last night). Several
infantry/light armour actions mentioned, but not in real detail.
I'm not sure what sort of detail I should go into - I hate dropping
spoilers for such a great series, if people haven't read them yet! If you're
into hard SF, sort of in the Arthur C. Clarke mode for the mix of people &
science, check them out...
For gaming, some parts of the 2nd half of Green Mars might be fodder for SG2
or DS2 scenarios; Red Mars has nowhere near enough detail, but we get some
glimpses in Green of the state of the military art.

G'day Brian,

In the two games I've had something to do with we said yes, but I'd be willing
to hear arguments to the contrary.

Actually we didn't change the GRAV stuff as first time we forgot and second
time we though of it as being more to do with the vehicle and less to do
with the planetary body.

Just brushing up;)

That's what I thought, that's why I thought they could be good inspiration
rather than trying to game any of them out.
Have fun (and I'd bee keen to hear anything you come up with)

The Alarishi Armed Service agrees with this assessment. So invade someone
else.
I did a DS2 scenario based on the Moon (or similar planetoid) at the GZGECC.
For those interested the link to Moonbase Xi is:
http://www.ftsr.org/ds2/scenarios/moonbasexi.html
It was indeed set in a vacuum on a smaller planetoid. Here is a summary of the
special rules that I used: 1) Range: Max range was cut to 20" (40" from a
hill) due to the closer horizon. 2) GEV's, VTOL's, Conventional Aircraft,
GSM's, HVC's, SLAM's and CFE's, not specifically designed for use in a vacuum,
use fins or blades as control surfaces. Thus, none of these items will work.
3) Hits on infantry draw an extra damage chit 4) Hits on vehicles not designed
for a vacuum
(amphibious - vacuum) draw an extra damage chit.
5) DFFGs double their range bands (maximum range of 20" or 40" from a hill) 6)
Artillery and mortars not designed specifically for the low gravity, will not
function (they achieve escape velocity).

I know of an artical in Steve Jackson's Pyramid E-zine, a while ago,
that dealt
with Ogre/GEV gaming (the mini's version) on some of the various
moons/planets
in our solar system. I think you have to subscribe to see the artical...
I realize that Ogre/GEV isn't DS or SG, and it has a smaller range of
weapon types...but it might give some of you some ideas...
(Oh yes, for those who don't know -- the Pyramid E-zine is at this URL:

No, just stand off their habitat/rock with a starship and bombard them
with Beams until they quit. Or get vapourized, whichever is first and/or
desired.
Stuff this corridor fighting thing!

If you try this in AE space, bear in mind that if you have the rock in
range...you're in range. In anyone else's space, this may not be a concern.
