Ok, I've just received my Gurkhas and I'm pretty pleased, but if and when I
build a full on Company of NAC figs I'm going to need a Piper. (Ye canna ha'e
a prrop'r Scots unit wi' ou' a set o' thae pipes!)

Does anyone have a recommended NAC figure that is easily modified to look like
he's piping Cock O' the North or The Gathering of the Grahams?

I suppose the Gurkha unit would need one two, since they have a history of
their own pipe music (they're just another type of Highlander, albeit shorter,
more polite and from a different part of the world...). So any Gurkha figs
that would look good modified as a piper?

I'd use the Gurkha advancing with rifle at high porte, carve off the gun and
replace it with a milliput set of pipes. For the regular NAC range,
maybe SGA-02 (any of the head variants).

Mmm. I'd have to check.

In fact, there's a long history of fraternization between Ghurka's and
Highlander regiments. However, I've not come across references to Ghurka
pipers, but given a few hundred years, who knows;)

You don't have to wait, they already exist.

But.. But.. It's not in my "The Gurkhas" book by Byron Farwell, so how can
this be? ;) Well, okay, it's not on page 1-247. It may be further back.

A very interesting read, by the way; I heartily recommend it to anyone
interested in the Goorkas. MAybe other folks have some other recommendations
on the matter?

I have some pics somewhere - but you'll have to wait until I get home
after work for me to check the sources.

Check out the bottom of the page referring to official march songs. They have
one that is played on the pipes....Can't you see the Gurkhas liking the pipes
simply for the fact that everyone (aside from the Scots) hates and fears
them...?

I bought as bunch....

But sign up for the new ones? what do you mean? The New figs program thingy at
Eureka?

Ah yes, sounds just about appropriate. After all, these are the little
tribesmen from Nepal who, after their first year of service with the brits (or
thereabouts) bestowed the british infantry with the compliment that they were
'ALMOST as good as the Ghurka infantry'.

> >P.S. <plug>You did sign up for the new Ghurka figures at Eureka's

On the second page of their Club 100 sci-fi figures (after all the
proposed jaegers) is a short list of proposed Ghurka figures, like a
prone sniper, a spotter, a prone GMS/P launcher (as opposed to the
IAVR's they all carry), and a kneeling SAW gunner. There could be more, but
those I can recall off the top of my head.

Once there are enough people who have signed up to show their interest, Eureka
will start production. So, if you're interested, 'order' some of those figs.
(They cost 0.00$ to order, and when they are modelled, you can THEN decide to
actually order them or not, based on quality etc. That is, if I understood the
web page correctly)

Hi Ryan,

A good friend of mine is in the midst of converting an NAC piper as we
speak. There's a figure that's perfect for the conversion - the male
SAW gunner, standing facing forward with the SAW held up and to his left. You
leave the arm in place, but cut out/file out the saw and it's gear, as
much as possible, then model in pipes with modeling putty and something for
the drones. Won't be perfect, but pretty close. Don't try to do it in a
"being played" position - he's just standing there with the pipes...

I pulled out my platoon of gurkhas to take a peek, and none of them leap out
as suitable figures for a piper conversion. You could always take one of the
riflemen and add bagpipes strapped to his back? I realize that's not quite the
same thing, but the Gurkhas were all carved in great "action" poses, not
"standing on parade" poses like some of the NAC.

I finished my NAC stuff (including the Gurkhas) and it works out to be a
company size force. Very cool seeing it all lined up on a table... I wish
I had display cases at home - be nice to see them rather than just
seeing the cases...

Hmm, I know the figure you're talking about. I wonder if a playing pose could
be made. I modified a few figures into a prone sniper, a
prone GMS/P trooper and a kneeling GMS/P trooper.
