I'm redesigning a TO for the Islamic Fed, putting auto-grenade launchers
in the platoons. Can those AGL fire smoke grenades?

"Smoke" (page 57) says that an infantry unit can place a 3-cloud-wide
smoke 6" away, or that artillery can drop smoke. I'm thinking of using the AGL
smoke to block enemy LoS when I'm getting ready to assault later in the turn,
but I don't know whether it's plausible or how big a cloud to make it.

As a follow-up to Laser's question, what is the minimum range for a
mortar? Would Scifi mortars have a "dialed" charge to allow for shorter range
when desired, or a flatter trajectory to the same point?

Depends on carraige. Vasiliek can fire direct-fire,
as can the various turret-mounted breechloaders
(Ruskies have some 120mm, there's a French armored car with a 60mm, and IIRC
Slotam makes a 60mm fire support
turret for mounting on an M-113).
