Seems out of balance with Class/1 heavy weapons. How then are class/1 heavy weapons more powerful/effective? -Bri [quoted original message omitted]

Small arms point fire weapons depend upon the users quality for their range bands. Heavy/class-1 weapons use 12" x target size for their range bands (eg: size 5 MBT target = 60" range bands on the SG table). This makes a big difference to the range die; at 24", a regular unit are in their third (d8) range band against a size-2 truck, but a heavy weapon is in it's first (d4) range band against the same size-2 truck. With that sort of range die, even no firecontrol (d4) + green quality (d6) is very effective. I find heavy weapon units good to hide green troops in (until they Panic...) as infantry targets are size-1.
