Using the Armour Class1 all round would seem more reasonable; otherwise PA
with AC1 ie d12 all round are better protected than the Walkers!?

With AC:1 at the front, walkers are immune to anti-infantry
weaponry. With AC:0 at the sides, they have the same protection as a powered
armour
team, 5 valid damage points to kill with anti-infantry weaponry.
Therefore, in the standard DSII rules, infantry walkers are be protected than
a PA team.

Except that PA cannot be targeted by GMS systems - the scourge of
lightly armoured vehicles. My experience with armour 1 vehicles is that they
very rarely survive any direct fire hits. PA on the other hand seems
remarkably resistant to AT weapons. I would take a platoon of PA over a
platoon of IW anyday (provided the PA had
at least _some_ AT capability).

Because infantry and PA infantry can't be hit with GMS in DSII.

> I would take a platoon of PA over a platoon of IW anyday
An infantry walker can carry GMS/H which allows taking out heavy
bunkers
or big vehicles, which a GMS/L couldn't take out. Also with the free
pintle mounted APSW, it can give longe range Antipersonnel fire support. A
combination anti-tank system and APSW team. Just watch out for opposing
GMS.

For armament, use either RFAC/2 or MDC/2 mixed with a few GMS/L
<depend on the tech lvl> for it has some mutli-role capability. I use
my walkers for aerodrop missions and support my PA troops. In group of 6 to 8.

A bit more reasonable would be a HMG (probably around 10mm+) in a
coaxial mount on the end of the walker's arm. The other arm or shoulder would
mount the main armament that is used to take out vehicles. Another mounting
option would be atop the walker's head in a small cupola that tracks wherever
the pilot is looking.

In one case "the finger of death", the other "looks that kill".

If it wasn't for the size class = max. number of weapons rule, the best (IMHO)
loadout for an infantry walker would either be

GMS/H, 2xAPSW
or
GMS/L, 4xAPSW (two twin barrel HMGs, one on each arm)...

As it stands however, the most effective loadout I've seen is
a GMS/H and the free APSW.

A pintle mount would look rather silly. The only reasonable place to put it
would be on the walker's "head." Then again, I would break out laughing at the
multitude of Daleks running me over and disintegrating my troops.
"Exterminate! Exterminate! EXTERMINATE!..."

Would a Dalek count as an infantry "roller"?

A more reasonable walker would have a heavy automatic rifle (APSW or
RFAC/2) with a shoulder mounted missile system, much like the Heavy Gear
universe of Terra Nova.

This would prolly represent the mechas "handheld" gun or maybe a headmounted
weapon. Of course not technically pintle mounted... While it's main weapons
are "shoulder" mounted or "chest" mounted.

Personally, I limit my SG vehicles to 1 heavy weapon/size class & allow
the rest of the capacity to be used as you wish. However, obscene designs (ie
5 APSW or autogrenade launchers) are disallowed on principle. If it's a
balanced design, it should generally be allowed by your opponent.

See:

for my own views & walker designs.

I tend to add a MLP(3) to my HG walkers, simply to match the figures. The
Rabid Grizzly certainly gets a workout with the design rules.
DFFG/2, MLP(3), free SAW. no extra firecons

Possibly, but it could look odd. Remember that in DSII design rules, every
vehicle comes free with a APSW that is assumed to be pintle mounted on a
vehicle. Obviously this has to be adjusted for a walker. In a walker, I would
assume that this would be fitted to one arm to point and shoot. Alternatively,
a shoulder mounted external weapon, much like the predator had in the movie
"Predator", though larger of course. Or, externally mounted as the M2HB is on
the M1 tank, but capable of being fired (not very accurately) at enemy
infantry. If you think of the infantry walker as being a bit larger, the
trooper inside could pop his hatch and fire the APSW from a pintle mount
fitted on the upper chest or head. Depends really on what miniatures you have
or can convert.

It reminds me of a cartoon in Dragon magazine about 1989 of 2 Daleks at the
bottom of the stairs with the caption:"Well, we're certainly screwed now."
