In the absence of any 'official' 15mm GZG gun crew figures, I'm planning
to use WW2 or modern figures, preferably in some sort of generic headgear such
as forage caps, berets or similar. I've had a nose at the Peter Pig range
which seems to have some possibilities, but I can't find
any pictures. Does anyone know of a source of PP pics online? Failing that,
could anyone point me at suitable alternatives that I can have a look at?
Cheers

Tony, Take a look at this, allot of PP stuff and others.
Did you know that the Peter Pig range 6 "odds" includes head packs?

No, not until you pointed it out - thanks (although I can't see separate
NAC, FSE, NSL or ESU heads :-) )

Maybe not, Tony, but I think they do berets, kepis, sidecaps, German field
caps etc..... ;-)
Base the figure(s) first, then snip off the head at a 45 degree angle from the
back of the neck. Drill a hole with about a 1mm drill in the Dremel, then the
new head sits in perfectly. I've added Sikh turbans and Aussie hats to a lot
of 15mm Eighth Army this way, and once painted they look like original figures
rather than conversions...
They do IDF (Israeli Defence Force) Tank commanders, which I've heard can
make someone look a bit sci-fi.
Someone used the Wolf heads to make Vargar and the Lizard heads for the
Turtledove lizards things (don't know their names)

Jon, Works on your 25mm too, you should see your NAC infantry in Pith
helmets.....) Err I needed Territorials...)

Odd question, how do you fit a turban under a helmet? If a person whose
faith/culture required a turban or similar head covering (How about
veils
in helms - Tauregs in space? "Significantly large" hair styles?
Yarmulkes should fit okay...) worn for whatever reason it would make some
helmets, like the UNSC style ones, require 'modifications'! Anyone dealt with
this before?
Well, I said it was an odd question...
Gracias,
I would think in the future that there would be some form of "inner" turban
that fits within the helmet or a helmet that looks like a turban with a cloth
covering or an "outer" turban that wraps around the outside of the helmet.
PSB for any of the cases, after it is the future and traditions change.

What do Muslim and Siek (sp?) soldiers do today? Or even during WWII?

LOL as a matter of fact yes I'm dealing with it as we speak....) I tend to rap
the helmet with a head band like turban with the
neck cloth under the helmet in most cases. For ceremonial /guard
units I do a head change using a period helmet from the relevant culture. I'm
happy with the over all effect.

Usually you put the helm on first, then wrap the turban around it. Don't know
how well that would work with a modern Fritz style helmet.

If you were willing to reduce the 'turban' to a symbolic length of cloth
wrapped around the helmet a few times it should work OK. Or rework it as a
Palestinian-style headscarf arrangement, fastened just inside the rim of
the helmet.
Some of the medieval Middle Eastern & Indian helmets I've seen pics of did
these things, when wrapping the iron/steel helm in a full turban wasn't
practical.
It would also make converting 15/25mm figures a bit easier - just use
lead foil or something to add some strips around the helmet. It would even
work on PA helmets!

Or, simply make the turban out of form-mimetic armored cloth that will
bend to turban shape then 'freeze' to protective, and hermetically sealed,
form...
Sorry, I suddenly got silly.
Move along, nothing to see here...

Hi,
I'm not 100% sure about this, but I was under the impression that the Sikh
faith required only that men have their heads covered, NOT that they
specifically wear turbans (I think the turban is just the *traditional*
headcover, not a required item).
Perhaps a Sikh soldier could wear a thin cloth cover and a regular helmet,
thereby making sure that their head and hair are completely covered and that
they still get the protection of a helmet.....
???
We've seen a few interesting changes to some old Canadian traditions to
respect the Sikh turbans, though - RCMP officers with Turban instead of
the traditional Stetson brimmed hat.... Then again, RCMP officers don't dodge
shell fragments very often, so don't really need combat helmets.
Anyway, maybe somone onlist knows more about Sikh culture and can fill us in
further?
FWIW, Sikh cricketers are permitted to play wearing just their patka
without a full turban. This can be worn under a cap / sunhat / helmet
without problem. If you don't know what a patka is...
