It has been my opinion that no game company of any size has ever been able to
keep up with published schedules. I've played with wargames and such for
almost 20 yrs and rarely have I ever seen a product come out when scheduled.
CarWars Tanks was announced a couple of years before it actually hit the
market. Large companies like Avalon Hill are no better then AOG in this
respect. They all get anxious and announce horribly optomistic release dates.

Company: "It will be out in September."

Customer: "Which September?"

Actually, T$R, whatever its other faults, was very good with deadlines. But
generally, you are right. It's just that it's not just gaming, it's pretty
much the entire publishing industry, from software to books (newspapers and
magazines being the notable exception).

Mikko was right, however. Before TSR's cash flow problems, there stuff came
out pretty much on schedule and they paid their writers pretty much on
schedule. When they ran into the cash crunch last year, the first sign was
their delay in paying their writers. Anything scheduled for the fall of 1996
and beyond was hampered by their financial problems and the company's near
death experience.
