Ok, just got back from a long trip and I've been thinking. Yes I know htat's
dangerous.
So I've come up with 2, well ok 1, well ok reworkings of 2 earlier ideas. I
think I've got it mostly worked out but I know it'll need some tweaking.
Assimilation Pods:
1 biomass 3 energy Does one damage to armour Acts as 1 boarding party. If it
wins, assimilates one defender point If the pod assimilates the entire crew
the ship is in control of sa'vasku player.
When fired en mass only assimilates one defender per round.
Deployable Armour:
Mass: 5% of total mass minimum 2 mass. Cost: Mass x 6 Energy: Mass x 1 from D
pool
Deploys 5 points of armour above carapace. Acts as regular armour. Acts as
level 1 screen. Declare active in orders. When all armour boxes marked off
generator is taken offline as per a critical hit. Can be repaired. (this
sticks in my mind. I'm not sure about it) Spicules cannot be fired while
armour is deployed. Stinger nodes limited to "middle" arc. Shields cannot be
active while armour is deployed.
Well there's what I've come up with while being in a hour 13 driving stuper.

Well, something like this has already been suggested and discussed some time
ago, have a search of the archive with 'bjorg assimilation pods' Probably
worth taking a look at some of the alternate boarding party rules out there as
well.

well, it eats another biomass box...

PSB question - what does this represent - I have an image of an SV ship
with a layer of armour _crawling_ over its surface (like a big slug) :-)

I know. I'm the one that created them. At the time though we never came to any
consensus and I dropped it till I could work something that wasn't too
powerful but still simple. This is a rework.

Well this was originally a human idea, based on the final episode of Voyager
having that anti borg deployable armour. Put out the idea and but had some
real problems with it. I went on vacation (if you can call it that) and did
some thinking. As one point I thought, "Humans get all the neat toys and I'm
moving towards sa'vasku, why not work it with them. Balancing will be easier
with the simpler sa'vasku system and the powergenerators."
What I invision for the S is ridges that run along the ships that are the
generators. When powered they create a solid field in between them. It's like
shutters closing on a window. Since the field is solid nodes can't rotate and
weapons would only be able to fire in their "straight ahead" direction.

No. When the row is lost the power generator is lost (not threshold check,
just lost). Yes. They are repairable (but it takes a lot of biomass to
attempt).

G'day,

One defender point? Do you mean a damage party?

Why both of these?

I take it the higher power of the stinger lets it through or something?
Cheers

G'day

I know I'm being picky (sorry) and its probably my own fault for being on an
international mailer, but can we kinda remember that some of us living in the
boondocks don't get to see things when you guys do... at this rate I'm gonna
know the whole plot of the final episode before I even see the
first half of the season;)
I know spoiler space can suck, but it is appreciated;)
Thanks

Actually that's what I ment.

Well fitting in with the sa'vas repair rule it would take one biomass and
equal energy to mass of unit. I wouldn't change that.

Well I was going by the FT2 book on boarding parties. I really haven't even
looked at them in a loooong time:) It the rule modification now that CF
factors are used to determan crew points then yes, it assimilates a damage
control party.
It's been a long 2 weeks on the road and my brain is fried:)
> >Deployable Armour:
The idea was to have a unit that protected about beama nd armour penetrating
weapons. Instead of unbalancing by having an all stopping unit I thought of a
combination classic FT shield and armour layer.
> >Spicules cannot be fired while armour is deployed.
Well one reason is for a some game balance. The tech talk idea is that since
spicules are small and omni directional they would be covered by the armour
layer while the big stingers would have chanels to fire out of but would be
unable to rotate.
My mistake, I misread it this last time. I thought it took biomass equal to
the mass of the system repaired. So to repair a 7 point Power Generator would
take 7 biomass and 7 energy points. But I WAS WRONG.
It take POWER equal to the mass of the system repaired, but only ONE mass to
attempt a repair. (As you pointed out).

Sounds interesting - but I still like my slug concept :-)
G'day,
> Well I was going by the FT2 book on boarding parties. I really haven't
Without the books to hand I don't think so (I'm sure someone will correct me
if I'm wrong). I don't think the boarding party stuff has been updated since
MT at all (except for Schoon et al's stuff on the list).
Cheers
Beth
Well the feedback from these ideas hasn't come back with the effigies that I
expected.:) Does this mean people think they're mostly balanced? I'll take a
look at the list mods for boarding parties to see if I should make changes to
the dynamics of the assimilation pods in that reguards. Have to start
installing the deployable armour modules onto some ships and try them out
then.

I don't usually use the archives since I keep all the emails I get from lists
and just search my own database.
G'day Jaime,

Don't have Schoon's stuff easily to hand so here's teh archive address:
http://www.warpfish.com/jhan/ft/Archive/
