Can anyone tell me who makes GOOD bioships to use as Sa'Vasku ships!!

I currently have some Mico Machines B5 Vorlon ships that look really good but
there are only two types.

Does GW (oh no!! I've said "that" name :-) ) still do the Tyranid ships
through mail-order and how much are they?

Also if there are any other companies who do good bio-ships could
someone
please post their contact addresses (e-mail, snail mail or 'phone) so I
can ask them how I get a hold of them (cause I'm in Oz). This would be greatly
appreciated as I love the Sa'Vasku idea and rules.

Make 'em yourself, here's what I did. I carefull scoured my local beach for
clumps of dried seaweed, the kind that has floatation pods that range in size
from 1/2" to 1" (non Australians may not have these kinds of weed on
their beaches). Make sure the pods have dried out. Get a handful of pods of
different sizes, and a bit of dried weed, and place them in a freezer bag
(small clear plastic bags) and pour in some PVA glue. Hang the bag somewhere
with the top open and let the glue dry ( it took about a week), then remove
your creation. SOme of the plastic may have stuck to the mass, never mind,
just leave it on, it adds to the appearance. Paint the mass lurid colours, and
then varnsih it in high gloss to give it a slimy, glistening look, and base
it. As unlikely as it sounds, the final model looks **extremely** good, and
costs almost nothing to make.

Cheers Geoffrey

Dunno, but from the look of the little pictures [ship status sheet,
whatever] you need something lumpy. ^_-

[Of course, the Earth ships look *nothing* like their status sheets,
so... j/k. ^_^ ]

Yes, they still sell the Tyranid metal [only kind, actually] through
mail order. But you'll have to pay full price -- probably 5+ pounds per
blister. [About 1.5 dollars in a pound.]

And, actually, I'm not sure if you'd want to use them... the minis aren't all
that impressive for the bugs, IMO. But if you want to get a look at their
pictures, point a [graphical] web browser to
"http://www.contrib.andrew.cmu.edu/usr/at2u/sf-hive.html"; I finally got
the Hive Fleet page done. The paint jobs 'Eavy Metal did on the Tyranid ships
is... less than impressive, IMO [I *hate* the Hive Ship, it just looks
*really* stoopid] but it'll give you a feel for what the ships look like, and
a name to ask for if you do decide to order.

I used the night brood ships from Silent death (ICE) These were made by
Grenadier in the UK I think. Even though they are fighters they are scaleless
as they have no discernable features like a cockpit. They are now out of

production but might be found in your local gaming store which might hold old
stock.

There is a new release called Silent Death Next Millenium which contains a
whole bunch of new ships, they haven't made it over here UK yet so are
unlikely to be in OZ yet, again this is a gaming store game so it should be
widely available.

The GW Tyranid ships are also pretty good, but again out of production &

expensive. They have a good distribution system so pick up a copy of white
dwraf and see about ordering from GW. I saw a post a while back that they
might still have some space fleet stuff left, but its about 5 quid ($10 aus) a
ship!

I did see once that someone made Sa'Vasku ships from dead/dessicated
insects
- flys and beetles - sounds gruesome but probably gives the best
bio-ship look
possible. I suppose you could take moulds in silicon & cast them in resin?
Given OZ has some of the most way out insect fauna in the world why not try
that?

Just a quick correction. SDNM is available in the UK.

Just to correct this... it's 5 quid [where the heck did that term come from?]
per *blister*, not per ship. Many of the ships come 2 or 3 to a blister, so
it's not all that bad; the smaller ones [spore mines, for example] come 4 to a
pack. All in all, I think you get roughly an equal
amount of lead [yup, they're lead ^_^ ] per blister, just in different
forms.

Couldn't you just use really thick varnish on the seaweed? Cut down the time
used.
Also, some shells (especially coned ones, if legal/possible to
obtain in your country) would propably also make nice ships, either by
themselves, or with bits attached. As I've said before, any metal miniature
Citadel has ever produced is available through their mail order service, if
they still have the molds. They'll happily cast them for you at no extra cost
(apart from the total

rip-off rates they usually charge for their minis, of course...).

Somebody suggest the Tyranid ships from GW's Space Fleet game. Actually, I
think that the Eldar ships from the same game are better. Cut the sails off
and they have a very organic look to them. IMO many of the Tyranid ships
either look too silly or look too much like a specific creature.

Rafm made great ships as part of their Silent Death line.

Though they are currently out of print, they intend to bring them back by the
end of the year.
