Subject: Re: Rules you use, rules you ignore

> How many use the Aft Arc fire only on turns with no main drive thrust

Yes.

> How many use Aces and Turkys for fighters?

No. Though I'd like to someday - perhaps for a specific scenario.

> How many even care to use some of the fluff-hinted at rules such as

Pretty much all battles start at "red alert."

> Since there are so many optional rules, how many use Vector vs.
Cinematic?

When vector first appeared, I was a staunch supporter, and thought I'd never
go back to that "silly" Cinematic system ever again. Now after experimenting
with both, I find that Cinematic is my preferred choice.

> How many use any of the sensor rules?

Nope, particularly since they've yet to be upgraded to FT3 standards. There
are many different ideas of how to do this, but this is hardly the time to
dredge all that up here.

Even so, I feel that at the tactical scale (i.e. on a tabletop) that they
shouldn't really enter into it. Grand tactical (or system scale) would seem to
be a much more appropriate place to have them.

Should Savasku players using this scheme name their Broodships after birth

> Nope, particularly since they've yet to be upgraded to FT3 standards.

In comparison to some of our Phalon threads I think it would be a nice change
of pace... The point of this thread is to generate more discussion on rules,
and in particular probe what people think of the various
sub-systems. Full Thrust seems like the most adaptable,
different-between-two-groups type of rules I've ever enjoyed playing.
Sort of like WRG 7th editon ancients but with much less acrimony!

> Even so, I feel that at the tactical scale (i.e. on a tabletop) that

I totaly agree with this - I think a system for determining pre-battle
manuevering/detection, etc. would be fun to play around with.

Glory to the Majority Party indeed. "Bolshevik" vs "Menshevik" is one of my
favourite Big Lies.

(OK for those not cluey on Russki history, when the Marxists were just one of
the many small parties in the Duma, some bright spark had the idea that if
they called themselves the 'Majority', and their far more numerous opponents
the "Minority", eventually they'd be believed. Heck, it worked for 75
years.... Hence Bolshevik and Menshevik)

G'day guys,

> Do you find you use 100% of the rules or not?

We wouldn't use them all at once but we've probably cycled through them all.

Our usual games include: Vector movement (new system... its grown on me) 1 mu
= 1 inch SMs have a 3" attack radius Aft arc no fire if burn rule (I know it
doesn't make sense in vector, but it then Jon's FB designs didn't make sense
if you didn't use it... in my

opinion) Fighter Morale and Endurance (but no aces or turkeys... we have
enough of those without having to typecast) Initiative (toyed with a second
initiative for fighters, but though it gave some interesting results we tossed
it as to hard to keep track of two initiatives) Floating table Core systems
Strike the colours
No FTL outs unless a part of a scenario/campaign (but you can declare a
disengage/concede).
Don't need a separate FC for p-torps unless firing at a separate target
Fighters can start launched and all ships are at battlestations (or whatever
the correct terminology is) Rerolls on 6 Rolling ships Class 1s can act like
PDS PDS can fire on ships Everybody can have a look at anybody else's SSDs
once the game has started

Modified rules used if needed Ramming Boarding Sensors (mainly in campaigns)
More Thrust Missiles Minefields (mainly types) Genre weapons (sometimes used
without modification) Cloaking (cloak during movement phase, can not fire
while cloaked, but will set off minefields and be hit by template weapons)

Homegrown rules "Weather" Mecha fighters Factory ships (part of a campaign
system) Modular ships (linkage points can be taken out by a threshold etc)

There's probably some other stuff too, but they're not jumping out at me

right now.

Have a Merry Christmas guys

Beth

My favourite was "Strange Dark Sins". Though there were some other goodies,
"Collateral Damage" etc.

Hmmm. Did I start this by giving the OU's names for Fleet Auxliaries, viz
Wombat of Retribution, Potto of Destiny etc?
