Okay...I just got back from our first game of Full Thrust and we have a few
questions...
1. Is it just us or are missiles frighteningly effective? Jerry Han made some
reference to an "Aegis" system to shoot missiles down...how does that work
again?
2. Can fighters engage missiles?
3. How does Wave Gun charging work? If you roll a 6 straight out can you fire
the Wave Gun that turn? If you roll a 6 the next turn (it happened both
turns!!) can you fire the Wave Gun that turn too?
And just because we can't figure them out...
4. How do you balance Kra'vak forces vs. Human ones?
5. And how do you figure out what's a fair force for the Sa'Vasku?

Missiles are very effective. You can use PDAF or an ADAF to shoot down a
missile on a roll of 6 (MT pg. 3).

Not with the core rules (only PDAF and ADAF), but several of us have
proposed using fighters in an anti-"buzz bomb" type role.
> 3. How does Wave Gun charging work? If you roll a 6 straight out can
The rules state that when a wave gun reaches a full charge of 6 it may fire at
any time. I take it that this can mean the same turn it reached the
6.

Usually 2/3 odds in favor of the humans.

Haven't tried those things yet.

It's an optional rule, most people come up with their own variants of it. The
version I sent to you was something I made up off the top of my head.
Essentially, the AEGIS combat system was developed by the United States Navy
to shoot down Soviet anti-carrier missiles, which were big, fast, and
nasty.
It's a combination of planar array radars, and special computers/battle
software, that makes it more effective than your conventional fire control
system (though, the Iranian Airbus shootdown in 1989 proved that nothing is
full proof.)
In the FT/MT context, simply take an ADAF system, make it more effective
at
knocking down missiles/fighters, and give it a hideous cost/mass to
restrict its use. Use whatever numbers you feel like using, to get a game
"feel" that you want to play with.
> 2. Can fighters engage missiles?
This isn't specifically covered in the rules, it depends on what house rule
you want to use. Some say yes, some say only "interceptor" fighters can
engage missiles, and some say no.
> 3. How does Wave Gun charging work? If you roll a 6 straight out can
I play that if you roll a 6 straight out you can fire the Wave Gun, but, once
again, I think this is a question of personal taste. (8-)
> And just because we can't figure them out...
You don't want to ask this question. Trust me. (8-) (If you want an
idea of the argument it provoked, take a look at the FT archives for June.
It's a recurring issue.

Wait until the next supplement comes out. (8-)

The Aegis system we use is a dedicated defensive firecontrol (Aegis FC) which
costs 15 points, and may either replace an existing FC (no mass used) or be
added on (3 mass). The system gives a +1 to all fighter and missile
intercept rolls by ADAF on the aegis ship. Missiles are pretty nasty, but are
managable if you provide your ships with adequate protection and fly as fast
as you can and still maneuver.
2. Can fighters engage missiles?
Like many groups out there, we allow interceptors to engage missiles.
3. How does Wave Gun charging work? If you roll a 6 straight out can you fire
the Wave Gun that turn? If you roll a 6 the next turn (it happened both

That's how we handle it.
And just because we can't figure them out...
4. How do you balance Kra'vak forces vs. Human ones?
5. And how do you figure out what's a fair force for the Sa'Vasku?
Good Questions, no answers. Trial and Error (heavy on error).

I don't know about the "aegis" but PDA and ADA can shhot a missile down on a
'6', as can the optional 'c' battery. But yes, missiles are NASTY!
> 2. Can fighters engage missiles?
It doesn't say they can, and it doesn't say they can't...
> 3. How does Wave Gun charging work? If you roll a 6 straight out can
I personally never use the things...

Oh no... don't open that can of worms! Alien forces are aliens, and you really
can't match them without screwing up the system. I prefer them the way they
are, very deadly and tricky to overcome... they ARE advanced alien technology
come to wipe out teh earthlings, not a common foe you match forces with...

See my reply to #4...
