Ok, I'm working on the specs for my new race and I'm trying to figure relative
strength to human nations.
So we have:
ESU: total TMF ~49000, total NPV ~170000 NAC: total TMF ~50000, total NPV
~173000 FSE: total TMF ~41000, total NPV ~139000 NSL: total TMF ~40000, total
NPV ~137000
Now these are all powers that eminated from Earth and therefore have a more
limited population base then say an entire race even if they're limited to
currently 4 systems.
Working on the vision that you have an entire planet, say roughly the same
suface area and population capabilities of Earth, plus 2 colonies planets in
the system (1 planet 1 moon of gas giant) and sundry large orbital settlements
around the planet and the gas giant, then add a moderate colony in the
asteroid belt. Now they have 3 colony worlds in 3 different systems that have
been around for about 50 years.
Where would you rate this in power if you assume medium to strong military
(working off the premise that they have just pulled out of a nationalistic war
100 years before and been attacked by aliens 50 years before?
This is a society based on the SST book vision and an mostly automated
manufacturing system.
G'day Jaime,

If you want to send me the rough details of what you think carrying capacity
for your planet would be (based on what you've said probably about 100
billion), how commone "natural disatsers" are, how common disease is, if they
have any major wars (and if yes when... e.g. ones vs your bugs), what
conditions etc are on the colonies and when each was founded I'll run it
through my population model for you. Its not as polished as it could be
(e.g. only follows total population and yearly time-steps), but it'll
give you a pretty good idea of the projected population size based on current
theories and practice in population modelling.
Cheers
Interesting comment, there... is your population model available to the
general public somewhere?

Not exactly, its been adapted from the population/ecosystem models I use
everyday at work. So the general theory is out there, but my particular model
isn't. I do have a simple spreadsheet (and can write a simple how to use file)
I can send you that will give a ballpark figure of about the same size as my
model would give you it just won't have as many flash compensations etc (its
simply an implementation of a discrete growth model for anyone who has done
any quantitaive ecology classes).
If you're interested email me off list and I'll send you a copy.

I'll do some sketching on this information for you and get back. A bit more
detail then I had fleshed out so far. Man this is starting to feel like school
again. Please Miss Fulton, can I have an extention to the project?
G'day Jaime,

If that means not fun then stop now, gaming should always be fun;)

She's kinda "expecting" a bit of a delay at some point soon.... ^_-
(Sorry, couldn't resist! And this time I can even post it to the list!
<grin>)

...shouldn't that be *Mrs* Fulton...?
Later,

Well I've been called worse so I was willing to let it slide *this* time
;)
