If anyone wants an interesting pass at STL fighting between ships try reading
Larry Niven's PROTECTOR. (All right NO Pak rules!! The Kra'Vak are bad enough
without adding supersmart, supertough, immortal
killing machines into the fray....hint...hint....;-))

Gee, wouldn't the Pak protectors be on our side, at least until the Kra'Vak
and Sa'Vasku were dead? Then they'd cheerily pick human factions to support in
genocidal attacks on each other while trying to turn humans into Paks. And as
long as they like the smell of one faction better than another, it should be a
shrt little battle.
Hmm, protectors in SGII, DSII, Full Thrust. It could be very interesting,
after I finish about 12 other projects.

William Keith's "Warstrider" books have some good STL battle scenes as well,
especially "Symbiont". He mentions many of the things that have come up in our
recent discussion including beam weapon ranges, detection, nanotech aerosol
"screens", fighters, and missiles. I have only browsed through them briefly
but they look good so far.
