Hello all:
I've been toying with the idea of a set of humorous Sci-Fi
miniature rules for some time now. The basic plot line would revolve around
squads of dim-witted futuristic exterminators fighting against hoards of
giant, mutant pests that threaten to take destroy humanity. The two major
groups of pests would be a race sentient rats armed with guns, axes, swords,
etc., and giant mutant cockroaches. Could anyone recommend any minis that
might fit the bill?

Don't know about roaches, but the makers of Demonblade (there's a huge thread
going on about them in rec.games.miniatures.misc right now,and I suppose you
could use a search engine to find out more about them) are releasing some
futuristic rats-with-guns.
Does no-one have any info on where the Full Thrust FAQ is or techniques
for painting Full Thrust ships? I didn't get any responses when I last posted.

The cockroaches are tough, other than buying some cheap plastic ones for a
novelty or Dollar store. For the rats, though, Demonblade is [utting out a
line of "Goth Rats" (i.e. Necromunda Skaven) that might work. Only one figure
so far, but you can see it at www.demonblade.com.
I have seen plenty of plastic mutant roaches in our local dollar stores here
in the golden triangle.

Some of the Silent Death spaceships look like giant bugs with guns --
why not use them as alien AFVs?

I have the Grenadier Ratscum pack and wererats and they are similar to, but
bigger than the Ral Partha Ratlings.
If you contact Lance and Laser, you can find out if they sell plastic packs of
the Ratzi's. That would be a cheap way of getting lots of figures, and plastic
is usually easier to modify than pewter.
For reference:
AA Alternative Armies GRN Grenadier HBK Heartbreaker LNL Lance and Laser
The first price is list price, the second is Armchair's price (30% off
usually).

Ral Partha: http://www.ralpartha.com
For informatoin on the other companies listed, check The Miniatures

Hope this is of some help.

I just found out about this series today. I'm going to look into them,
although they maybe a little more high-tech than what I have in mind.
The mutant rats in my universe wear clothing they stole from the
little-tykes section of abandoned Wal-Marts (on average they are about
four feet high). Weapons are usually pulled off of dead humans while more
primative weapons are fasioned out of various junk (i.e. A
battle-axe for a Rat would be a broomstick with a sharpened hub cap
lashed to one end.)
Roaches are going to be less sophisticated. They're just six foot long insects
that charge their prey and attempt melee combat. A few other versions can spit
acidic goo or other such gimicks, but they are rare.
They will never get an "Oops" roll. (In my game, if a human or non-bug
creature rolls a "1" something bad and/or silly happens.)
Later,
Those Heartbreaker Ratmen have character. As good as GW/Evil Empire at
better prices.
