A while back someone mentioned (I think) that some of the US army/marine
small unit tactics manuals were available via the web. Have I got that right
and if so, does anyone have a URL for them?

The US Marines also have an online library thing:

http://WWW.DOCTRINE.QUANTICO.USMC.MIL/

The US Army's ADTDL is much bigger, however.

I've also got a link to something called The MOUT Homepage at
http://www.geocities.com/Pentagon/6453/index.html
(MOUT = Movement Over Urban Terrain, I think, eg urban combat.) It's been ages
since I visited the site, but it had some good information & links on it.

This is specifically the Army Field Manuals (FMs) for the Infantry Branch.

FM 7-8, INFANTRY RIFLE PLATOON AND SQUAD, is probably
your best bet. After you master that one, young Lieutenant, we'll work our way
up to company tactics...
