G'Day

Got the roll of film with the photo of the prototype 6mm hammers slammers
combat car developed and I have posted it on my gallery page just under the
P'taah picture.

Nice pic. I like the infantry you added. I wanted to do that but didn't have
enough figs handy...

This Saturday we take a company of these into battle, escorting a convoy. I
did up vehicle stats with each gun as a Class 2 DFFG. I also set them
up as if they can carry 1 infantry element - I thought that would
account for the space/gun crews in the back.
Any other thoughts?

Hellion Mk I Combat Car
size 4, armor 2, FGP, Class 2 DFFG x3 (SUP FCS), INF-2, ECM-BSC, SLTH 1,
Fast GEV

I plan to keep good track of things for an AAR for you all.

Is this the earlier version that was supposed to be much bigger than the
DS/FW models, or is this a later one that's more in scale. Either way,
it looks great!

It's the earlier version bigger than the average DS/FW miniature, but I

Would identifying the accompanying vehicles in the caption have helped? I'm
a vac-head, so the names would have been meaningless to me.

Interesting stats. I must admit I do not remember the combat cars being APCs
in the stories, but maybe it is just me. I also never pictured them as being
as large or larger then the tanks. How does the new figure match up against
the Deimos size wise?

I am looking forward to reading the AAR for this battle. Sounds like a nice
scenario.

I do not think of combat cars as APCs either, but I was toying with the idea
that they have a larger "crew" than the norm for a line vehicle that could
conceivably bail out and actually function as an infantry
line element. That is where the INF-1 came from originally, and I was
hoping to see what the list thought of that concept. Add in the 3 Class
2 weapons, and it forces it to a size 4 - which it is not. It looks like
a large class 3. If I drop the infantry carrying aspect and it becomes a Size
3 easily:

Hellion Mk I Combat Car
size 3, armor 3, FGP, Class 2 DFFG x3 (SUP FCS), ECM-BSC, Fast GEV

which would cost 173, compared to 291 for the earlier stat set.

I am leaning towards the cheaper version and I haven't made up cards yet, or
committed to any stats for the players... More thoughts?

Is a better writeup for the Combat Cars. PGN is a

in Jon Tuffley's Hammer's Slammers conversion for DSII.

Has the whole article. It ain't quite
balanced--Powerguns are NASTY. But it has the flavor
of the genre.

Yeah, I read that, and was really tempted.
But I did not want to unbalance this fight - regular DSII game.
I like the idea of using PGN stats for true Hammer's Slammers scenario,
though.

We start playing in about 2 hours... I'll try to get an AAR out tonight...

Okay thanks. But I've always wondered about this, does this mean the 6mm
infantry is actually in a bigger scale than the regular DS/FW vehicles?

I can't say for all of the vehicles in both lines, but of the vehicles I own I
would say the troops are not in "scale" to the vehicles. The 6mm troops (both
Dirtside and oop Epic) are big. But then they do look a
lot better then the 1/285th stuff I own.
