I'm going to suggest a 'local' gaming store here in Chicago-land for
American's (though they have shipped all over the world)-

Games Plus, who run a thriving and well-regarded mail-order business
along with their excellent and large brick and mortar business. They also give
breaks on mail-order's, and they will deal Credit Card, COD, or even by
check if you want to.

I've know the people there for years and they are all great.

http://www.games-plus.com/

They already carry GZG products (for all I know they order direct from Jon,
it wouldn't surprise me) and have a huge wargamer (not just role-player)
clientele - moderns, historical, fantasy, etc. About half the very large
store is devoted to mini's.

Think about it, it's probably worth it. If you call and talk to Rich, tell him
I said hi.

I would say more likely old GeoHex, but an acceptable 'sale' price, unless
you're used to crazy bargain bins, as I am.

Just for info, don't many of the newer GeoHex have plastic bases.

You can order international money orders from the US Post Office. They send
them from a central site, so there is a fee and some time lag, but it is a
viable option for infrequent orders.

Allan had already mentioned the whole PO money order thing, but I'm not sure
he got it QUITE right. The PO clerk that explained it to me suggested you pay
in dollars, and at the time it's issued in the 'central site', it's changed to
whatever exchange rate is going then. So far, from what other's have said on
eBay and here, he may have been blowing smoke to me nether regions.

Just an FYI, when I sent funds to Jon, it was a cheque, not a money order,
supposedly drawn against a UK bank(banque? ;->= ), and still cost me
about a third of what Dean paid, but about three times what the fellow from Oz
paid. (Sorry, lost the name in this somewhat overlong thread.)

No, it's the new stuff - or at least it was last time I was in the store
(~
month ago)

Let's see... They carry the Dirtside (and Future Wars), Full Thrust, I can't
actually remember if they carry Stargrunt (25 or 15) but I can't imagine
they'd have any problem ordering it if they don't. Same thing with terrain.
They carried the entire set of rules there as long as I can remember.

They have pretty regular sales and bargain bins to clear out old stuff so I
don't think they have any of the old GeoHex product left.

Ok, won't argue the point, but next time, look at the back of the 'new' stuff,
and see if it doesn't say, on the bottom of the back of the blister,
'Produced under license in the USA by Geo-Hex.' KR put out both card
back blisters, and, later, all plastic, recyclable #1 plastic, with card
insert, blisters.

All of the stuff I've gotten from Jon has been in zip baggies.

Jon will blister minis for stores to sell. There is no point to add that
additonal cost for direct sales to consumers, but if a store needs blisters
for display, he can do it. Carl at the ECC had a bunch of GZG minis to sell,
all blistered pretty with a red and white GZG card on the back.

I might have to check this out. While I most likely would order direct still
this might be a good resource to have 'in the hip pocket' for others who
needed an "AAmerican" source for GZG figures.

I stand grossly corrected :-(

I just got off the phone with Rich over at the store and they sort of stopped
carrying it after GeoHex went out of business. There's still some stuff in the
store, but I'm not sure what.

What Rich did say is that if someone from GZG would email or call him (contact
info is on their website, the guy to talk to is Rich Kurtin), there's always a
chance that they would carry the product, or at least make special orders, if
they got reasonable terms (otherwise I suspect that
they'd just mark it up X amount over what they paid for it - not
unreasonable, but not anymore cost effective than paying the bank charges I
would guess)...

Jon...???

No, unless you call Saint Louis close. I looked on the web page you provided.
Nice shop from the web site. We lost a good one here in Saint Louis that I
(for personal reasons) haven't been to in years recently when a car drove
through the front of the building. Hopefully Ken will have The Hobby Shop back
in business soon (one of four that we use for historical games in the Saint
Louis region (3, well 2 currently
on the west side and 1 on the east side of the river) - plus 3 other
progressively smaller/less gaming space available shops.)

As I said, perfectly understandable confusion; notice, I wasn't aware that Jon
would do the blister thing himself.

Small error in perfectly noble objectives!

I hadn't tried that. I _did_ go to the post office and ask for a money
order. They said they could only give me an International money order in U.S.
funds, which shocked me as Canada Post does it in a number of currencies. They
didn't say anything about a centralized shipping point for international money
orders!

> It is also very

I'm not having much luck getting credit cards down here, though I still have
my Canadian cards. The problem is that Canadian credit ratings don't transfer
to the U.S. I should have a U.S. credit card soon, though.

I do remember talking to someone who wasn't crazy about sending his
credit card information by e-mail. It would make things easier for them
if Jon had a secure server for handling credit card transactions over the web.

> I don't mean to diminish the difficulties you may have ordering

You're probably right (I haven't had problems, as I have a Canadian credit
card or could use my wife's card, or our Visa debit card). My intention was
just to show that there is a barrier for some people to buy stuff by mail from
Britain, which is one of the reasons GZG stuff sells well on eBay, even
sometimes exceeding retail prices.

While a credit card is an option, a lot of people are scared off by horror
stories and don't like using a credit card (even though they are probably
safer with a credit card than a money order; if you pay by credit card and
don't get your order, you can get a refund from the credit card company if you
act fast enough).

> Doug wrote:

I wasn't given this "central site" option. The type of money order I was
offered was the type that they print at the post office itself, and that's in
U.S. dollars.

Another option is to pay by Western Union, which has an option whereby
they will e-mail the sender telling them a money order is on the way,
and they send a physical money order to the sender. However, I don't know how
you pay Western Union. I don't know if you need a credit card, or what.

Hmmm... Yes that padlock really is still in the bottom right corner of the
site when ordering. It is on a secure server.
