The glorious 3rd fleet once again defeated the facist NSL horde 3 days
ago in the Grunwald system. Heavy fighting left both sides exhausted.
ESU casulties were limited however the loss of the Carrier Tiblisi was a
set back. Enemy losses however were more sustantial with the loss of
numerous vessels. The NSL fleet disengaged after 1 1/2 hours of combat.
The cowardice of the NSL Admiral can be seen by the number of fighters
left behind. The ESU has a strict policy of offering quarter to stranded
crews. This was carried out and they are now POWs. Over 40 fighters of
the latest NSL types were also captured. How long is it before the NSL
realises that it can't defeat the peoples will by force of arms.
Following this third sucessive victory over the NSL the 3rd fleet has had the
honour of a name change to ESU 'Red Banner' Fleet.

I have two questions about this post. 1. What is the game that you are
describing? Is this part of a PBeM game or a description of something you're
doing locally? 2. Would the GZG list be better served by a report of the
action? IMHO, a description of the forces involved and tactics used would be
of more benefit
to me than the chest-beating of your message.
Just my (selfish) two cents worth Mike Messenger

I second this request. A few more details would be more interesting for the FT
list.

Naahh, the chest-beating is okay, even fun sometimes. Just include some
details in a following post of the scenario and how it played out.
All of this is why we read this list.

I agree, kinda fun to hear it. More is better, too much of a good thing is
terrific.

As was massive damage to your other capital ship...

How long before the ESU realises it can't get away with blatant lies? Not a
single NSL ship surrendered, and no fighters were left behind.
Okay, the real story:
It was those damn pesky ECM missiles which crippled three of my capital ships
(one of which was a mass 150 supership). They lost all systems, but had
suffered little actual damage.
At that point it was decided to finish the battle. There was about a 50%
chance of the NSL getting drive systems back on line before the ESU could come
about and finish them off (the NSL and ESU fleets had just passed each other,
with the NSL heading off the board at considerable velocity).
ESU would have suffered massive fighter casualties (mostly torpedo and
standard fighters versus mostly heavy interceptors). The NSL dreadnaughts
would have tried their best to recover fighters before leaving.
For those interested, most of the NSL fleet can be seen at:
http://www.bifrost.demon.co.uk/NeuSwabian/Fleet.html
New acquisitions will be added as soon as I get the time (the NSL has a
continuing policy of freedom of information, unlike another government I could
mention).
The ESU will face utter defeat as soon as the NSL admiral can figure out how
to roll anything higher than a 1 on a d6 (except on threshold rolls, where
anything less than a 6 would make a change...)

Just a quick note. You say that NSL ships are generally unmanouverable, yet
most of your ships have thrust 4 (Even your largest ships appear to be thrust
4). What happened to the thrust 2 monsters.
I find thrust 4 to be quite maneuverable, especially when combined with multi
arc weapons. In fact it is the standard Thrust rating for all
federation ships in my FT/Starwars games.
May I suggest you try out a few experimental designs with Thrust 2?

They got left behind at the starting post:)
I'm mainly referring to the escort ships (some of which are thrust 4).
Consider also, that without armour, the capital ships would be thrust 6,
considering the power of their drives.
> I find thrust 4 to be quite maneuverable, especially when combined
Been there, done that, found that they were just too slow. I've got
a fleet carrier - the Stuttgart - which is thrust 2, and I'm going
to upgrade it to thrust 4, because it just doesn't go anywhere. Especially
when trying to avoid missiles...
