Hi,
I know that at least one person on the list runs a play by email FT game,
although I can't for the life of me remember who it is....
I'm interested in potentially running a small game for a few friends who don't
get to meet half as often as we would like, (sound familiar?) but I'm not sure
how to go about it.
Would anyone with experience of doing this drop me a line to give me some idea
of how to organise the whole thing? I would greatly appreciate any hints you
may have to offer, particularly in the area of keeping track of relative
locations of ships and headings etc.
Thanks,

Next time, fly Narn Spacelines!! The ride may not be smooth, but you
get to shoot at lots of folks!! ;-)

A number of people are running PBeM games.
Scott Field is running a human-alien first contact scenerio.
I'm running an elimination PBeM tournament with eight individual players and
fleets. Mark Kochte has run a number of Babylon 5 based scenario. Allan
Goodall has run a game in his Age of Iridium universe.
I use MS Excel for my games. I'm using a blind system for the fleets with
limited intelligence and sensors. The sheets generate the reports based on the
movement plots as well as a chart for positions. Scott has a similar sheet.
Combat is generated by hand as well as threshold checks.

I can think of at least three of us. ;-) Myself, Scott F, Tom M,
and Allan G....did I say three? I can't count today!
> I'm interested in potentially running a small game for a few
Is not hard. If you want an idea of how I ran things, point your favorite web
browser to:
http://scivax.stsci.edu/~kochte/full-thrust.html
I have 3 of the half dozen or so scenarios I ran on the page there.

D'OH!!!! That's right; Jon's running one, too! (sorry, Jon:()

Oh, didn't know that.

D'oh...d'oh...d'oh...

McCarthy. I don't know how widely he advertised; thought most knew.
I can tell you, though, in his game I'm getting my ass kicked. ;-)

Don't worry; I think they'll be gunning for you next... ;-)

Hi Geoff, I'm one of the guys Jon and Mark mentioned as currently running a
PBeM FT game. I am also one of the last sentient being without a web page, so
I can't just tell you to go to such-n-such URL to see how I run things.
;-)
Like Jon, I also use Excel spreadsheets to plot ship movement, calculate
range and firing arcs and generate maps. The turn reports I word-process
by hand; it's too hard to do with the format I use. (A sane man would change
the report format to make it easier, but then sane men are in such short
supply
around here....) I also do all die-rolling myself, but I believe some
people smarter than me have automated this.
If you want more information, e-mail me direct and I'll be happy to
answer your questions. If you like, I can also add you to the "lurker's" list
for my game (currently on turn 8 and just starting to get bloody!) so you can
follow along.

Both essential job requirements for a PBeM ref!

Actually the game died from lack of intrest (I think people were otherwise
engaged).
I'm telling you, the beard and mustache are rea--OW! Okayyy, so I lied.

Only the Shadow knows.

Sorry bad joke, who knows what the Shadows think are funny. But as the Shadow
player in Tom's game I did find it worrying that the
Vorlon/Minbari ship survived that hit.
