I wonder if anyone besides me has been pondering the integration of
personalities into SG II? I was thinking of giving personalities 1-3
skills based on it's "Hero Level". For example:
1: Crack Sniper-All range bands use the close die.
2: Aggressive movement- plus one to die roll for combat movement
3: Close Assault Expert- Die shift up in Close Assault
4: Master Tactician- may give extra action to group led for free
5: Fearless leader- unit does not get under fire markers
6: Tactical Ghost- May use Sniper hidden movement
7: Tough Bastard- Must be killed twice! (extra tough)
8: Tactical Intel implants- gets die shift to detect hidden
> 9: Comic-Book Cammo- wears brightly-colored armor to attract fire
ACK!!!;-)
(shudder)
It wasn't my intention to add firebreathing Psi-priest fanatic 35mm
heroes!! Happily I no longer own EVEN ONE GW 40k mini!! What I want to do is
add those new Pointman and First marksman figures from the GZG catalogue to my
tactical Squad!! I think a nicely painted personality within the vein of your
squad can add an awful lot. I also picked up a pack of Grenadier Future
warriors that has a wonderful Commander type with a pistol chomping on a
stogie! It was an expected (though funny) commentary reaction! Don't anyone
think I really want to go THAT route (shudder, retch, shudder)!

oops! Thought this was the 40k mailing list.;)
And no, Mike, I'm not making fun of your ideas, I like them. 8)

scenarios. Looking forward to seeing how you (and others) develop this
idea....

How about " for every additional person in the squad firing after the first,
Darth gets a die shift down for armor. i.e.:
1st-invulnerable
2nd-d12
3rd-d10
4th-d8
5th-d6
6th-d4
d4 minimum....
Darth also gets the d12 close range "crush trachea" weapon...;-)
MAN he's cool! (except for when he turns into Uncle Fester at the end of Jedi)
Actually, I was just thinking about this the other day, because I set up a
couple of Stargrunt Star Wars battles (I called this "STARgruntWARS" and used
Micromachine figs -- cheap, already painted, and if someone pours a beer
on them it won't bother me). Anyway, all the scenarios are set on Hoth (the
"ice planet" from The Empire Strikes Back) and it is concievable that either
Vader or Luke could show up on (well, fly across in Luke's case) the
battlefield. But think about this for a minute -- Vader in SGII. Hmmm.
OK, he has a sword, a great close combat weapon, give him the sword bonus, and
he certainly causes Terror in his opponents. He carries no weapons other than
his lightsaber, but he could use telekenisis on rocks and stuff, say to the
equivalent of a light pistol (close range only). But the problem is with
his armor roll -- in ESB Han Solo shoots at him, and Vader just catches
the blaster bolts in his hand...the only thing that seems to be able to hurt
him is
a lightsaber (Vader bothers to parry Obi-wan's blows, and Luke hacks him
up a bit). So letting him on the field is to descend immediately into 40kdom,
where an invulnerable hero is able to slaughter millions of hapless soldiers
at no risk to himself.
Then again, maybe that would be a good simulation of the Star Wars films. (And
if anybody wants the scenarios, I can post them.)

Remember that it takes Vader's concentration to turn aside all that energy. If
you gang up on him, you can defeat him. It was through strength of will that
Luke was able to win.

if he were invulnerable, he would have stood "superman" style and let the
shots bounce off his chest.
I'd suggest giving him some form of armor (I'm not sure how stargrunt works)
where a single figure would stand no chance, but a squad could do some serious
damage or kill him (he IS the second most powerful Jedi in existance, after
all...)

There are certain games that accomplish certain events at specific levels. I
think that DSII would be very usefull to use to run the entire Battle of Hoth
using the 6 inch tall walkers and other figures from Lewis Galoob's Action
Fleet. DSII is well suited for that.
However, if you want to incorporate the Force and other elements of Star Wars,
then play West End Games Star Wars Miniatures Battles. It is a very fast game
and an excellent squad to company level game. It has vehicles, squads,
creatures and heroes and force using heroes that are well balanced and avoid
the pitfalls of 40K. Darth Vader's main abilities are to influence the battle
by encouraging his own squads and frightening his foes. He is not invulnerable
and usually has a squad of his own troops around him. Plus there are those two
soldiers who always escort him... I think I see Imperial Guardsmen changing
uniforms as required...
The point is that each game is designed well for a specific genre and
shoehorning other elements in can be detrimental. I strongly recommend you
examine SWMB, you'll like it.
On a side note, I've developed a Battalion level game from West End Games
Assault on Hoth that uses the same Galoob figures and it runs very quickly
using sequence cards. It is not however a simulation, but well balanced.
Uncle Fester? I thought he was Humpty Dumpty!
> Darth also gets the d12 close range "crush trachea" weapon...;-)
HEY! Fester's a Jedi, think about it:
Capable of shrugging off immense amounts of damage, in fact, he seeks it out!
Can power small appliances by sheer force of will.....
etc.....
Now I'll have to post SG2 stats for Fester (TV and Movie Versions, FTOS? and
FTAF?, FAFV?)
Egad, my blood sugar's really low.

Agreed...the guy sounds kinda like a weenie, anyway. How's life treating you
John? I just came up for a bit of air, so news of someone with a life would be
relaxing.

So how would you deal with annoyingly cute little balls of fur that
somehow can overcome a company of armed and armored soldiers? ;-)

Ooof, nope......
This ain't a Historics page but I have to disagree here.
Zulus: Well trained, experienced soldiers, feared and respected throughout
their sphere of influence.
Ewoks: Throw a meeeeaaan BBQ.
Ack, the only thing the Ewoks had going for them is that they were
allies of the side that couldn't lose. This _is_ Science-Fantasy you're
talking about.

Don't forget the cute factor. Famous last words: "They're too cute to be

Where do you think they got all that BBQ experience, reading cookbooks?
These are the bad-boys of the SW universe: they are mighty fierce
hunter/warriors. ;)
Oh, help me, I'm *defending* the Ewoks!:@
Christopher, who now thinks that SGII Ewoks might be a cool idea...

Chewbacca: an Ewok on steroids.
I've got that little mini-story around here somewhere.. ;)

I suspect a lot of shops on both sides of the pond still have a few Future

My FSE fleet uses ewoks as seat covers.

Wasn't the ewok planet originally supposed to be full of Wookees? At least
that would have provided some sort of real challenge for the stormtroopers
instead of them having to embarrass themselves. Pity Lucas didn't rewrite
these scenes in the Special Edition.
On a slightly different note. Has anyone seen the AT-ST that Kentucky
Fried Chicken are promoting as part of the Star Wars release? I got one on the
weekend and it seems like the perfect size for a support vehicle
in SG. Also the AT-AT in the same series looks about right for DS2.
Considering they are only 95c each with the quality being reasonably good. I
don't think you could go too far wrong. (so long as you don't mind SW type
figures)
Dan
I fear that the only way to pick these figs up is by "prowling around". My
local Game store still has a metric ton. I picked up a
hover car and a big blister of Power Armor on Friday ;-). If anyone's
interested they do Mail order. The store is Enterprise 1701 in
Orlando Florida. The Phone is (407) 896-1701. It is a VERY large,
nice game store carrying a bit of just about everything. Talk to
Yes they do take credit cards. (MC, Visa, Amex, Discover, as well as ATM cash
cards) I just got off the phone with Lance at Enterprise and he indicated that
he intends to keep them in stock as long as possible.

Great!
I'm moving to the states next month so I could mail order.
Do you know if they take credit cards?

I can't wait to try that ATST out in SG2... hehehehe...
Soon!
