Hi All,
a friend of mine sent me this link for Pendraken 10mm Starship Trooper minis.
they have
humans, warrior bugs and tanker bugs (but no Hoppers -- rats!).
http://www.the-gamers-haven.co.uk/
select the Starship Warriors link.
they should mix fairly well with GZG 6mm bugs, but the Pendraken warriors will
look like warrior leaders.
have fun, Dave

clear you are dismissing the 10mm gamers as 'marginalized'.
If I mis-read you Andy (and it's easy on the written word) then tell me
and I will apologize. But it certainly comes over that way...
Maybe there is a more then sufficient number of 15mm (like 25mm also?)
manufacturers? <grin> Perhaps, like the Russian agricultural system is not the
lack of 'food' (miniatures) as much as 'transportation'
(miniature marketing/availability.)
FWIW, I am in the process of selling off all my non-skirmish* game
figures and working on replacing them with 6/10mm figures. The 6mm
figures are for games with compact and/or large armies (Renaissance,
linear pre-Napoleonic, Nappies, ancients (what few I will be keeping,)
MAW, and ACW eventually. I want there to be a clear difference between my
skirmish games and my 'battle' games. Granted in certain regions (especially
Europe perhaps) the tradition of 15mm figures has many people with significant
sized armies but for various reasons I have no desire to
step down/up to that scale.
*(I consider Ratner's Space Marines, Stellar Conflicts and Uprisings,
Starguard, Star Grunt II, Pig Wars, Chainmail, and Matchlocks on the
Warpath examples of skirmish whereas Dirtside 2, DBR/DBM, War Games
Rules 3000 BC to 1485 AD, the micro armor rules of Strike Legions, possibly
Tricolor, Tricorne (Bunger 1977) and the majority of board games to be
'battle'. Haven't decided on TSATF yet, there is a lot to be said
for 'cheap' plastic 1/72nd colonials...)
The argument of what determines the 'best' scale is age old (25 vs. 15 vs. 20
for example in the 1970's) but as for 10mm Science Fiction I look forward to
the continued development of the scale in SF battle games. Since it's SF there
is room to mix scales to represent different
races/species I can for see mixing 10mm with other scales. Also, some
people will look at SF battle games and just not see enough 'detail' in
6mm figures or too much cost in 25/20/15's and may find 10mm their cup
of
tea. As the prices for GW/Foundry (and others in the future I have no
doubt) become excessive (yes, that's my value judgment showing) in cost the
shorter scales will become more palatable. I think 10mm will certainly
initially grow faster in historicals or even fantasy then SF but over time,
who knows...
Currently it is 15mm SF that is invisible in my small corner of the world.
Even the GW guys don't have any 15mm lines that I know of... Yet they (GW)
does seem to be working on 10mm figures
(fantasy/pseudo-historical/historical yes but in GW terms there is a
definite blur between what defines SF and Fantasy from what little I can
tell.)

Yes, the list is of 10mm SF manufacturers *is* small, less then half a dozen
IIRC. But Then I was hoping to use them primarily in Historical or mass battle
fantasy and the side effect of use in SF is just gravy to me. I think for this
scale in this genre (SF) it will be heavily figure quality and figure line
size (more and varied will be better of course)
dependent then 25mm or 6mm because those already have rules/history for
SF application. But 10mm is growing in popularity in many areas.
> 10mm is a growing scale. It's gaining in popularity amongst
I am not sure where I will use 10mm (other then smaller races in SF Skirmish)
but for battles (a la DS2) it will depend on how good they look
and if I can find a rule set/niche for them.
> But... I applaud them. There are far too many people doing stuff in
Agreed, this is good. Even though 15mm is been the hidden scale locally
(except one man's crusade for DBM games a the local cons and a North end of
town Friday Night game session) I now see it has several appearances in local
historicals (WW1 IIRC) games scheduled this year for one club alone. Maybe I
will get a chance to become addicted to yet another scale
<grin>.
> Funny enough, I found some 10mm Battletech figures. I have probably
Really? How much are looking to get for them? Have you posted to Bartertown?
How do they compare to Reviresco or other 'true' 25mm scale figures? [sigh,
another temptation to find to fulfill my "Mice in Space" race needs.]
> Oh, and 10mm is very, very close to the N-scale model railroad gauge.
Good, I seem to have "terrain maker's block"...

I don't even own any 10mm figures (yet)! And you would have thought someone
was calling for them to be legally banned.
You said: "... At the same time, it's disappointing to find what you'd like to

Well, I think I can relate to that. But in a different way. I would love to
see John McEwan's 25mm Nektons in 6mm scale but John's eyes are going too much
for him to attempt this.
He (John McEwan) did say if there was a sculptor I found who would do them, he
would be willing to cast them... Now, If I wanted a bunch of them (and had
more money) then I would contact Nic at Eureka...
Have you considered Eureka's 100/300 clubs...?
I am working on getting money to them for some figures currently.
Maybe others would be interested in whatever you are looking for...
First, I was probably dead wrong to take offense at the post you had written.
Second to make that clear I have Cc:ed my apology and response to the list
since I made 'ugly' there I should make peace there. At least that's what I
was taught as a child.
I apologize for the tone of my post. That was not my best performance
and it should have been saved (the draft) for another day to be re-read
before posting. It seems you did not mean a patronizing tone and I simply took
it wrong. I was wrong. I apologize.

My 12 and 1/2 year old daughter twould think you 'old' - I'm 'ancient'.
My seven year old would probably agree, at least about me... <grin>

Again, that is not the experience in my game group (or at least they keep
them hidden) locally. And 15mm bushes might make nice 6/10mm trees.
<grin>
> I also think that they will survive better
An impossible statement to evaluate objectively but i will trust your
evaluation is 'correct' for your war game environment. One never knows what
will be popular 10 years from now...
> I chose to go with 6/10mm when Microarmor was king,
Funny how individual experiences vary so much. I started with 25mm
historicals then 25/28mm FRPG figures then micro armor (other peoples)
and on via board games and then computer games back to miniatures (side
trips to plastic 1/72nd, 1/76th, 1/87th, 20mm) and have finally decided
to finish my game life (I'm 50) using 25mm for skirmish (1500-1700 North
America, Dwarf/enemies Fantasy armies, SF such as Starguard) and 6mm SF
battles (using WW2/Modern vehicles/figures as I want) [and to link the
25 and 6mm SF stuff.] I have use for 10 and possibly 15 mm figures in SF
skirmish since I have several smaller species in my campaign setting where
they might fit.
Of course I will gladly play any scale/rules some else provides two or
more armies for on a game table! <grin> Maybe even GW stuff.
Interestingly I have never owned and seldom seen 15mm figures until last year
at a local con. *Maybe* once or twice before then but if so I do not remember
it (if I did I probably didn't realize it.) Strange but true. And I have
played war games since I was 9 (1959).
Historicals: I am moving for 'battle' games to 6mm (some Ancients) and
25MM skirmish (Medieval/maybe Dark Ages) and looking very seriously at
10mm for MAW, Marlburian and maybe ACW (an era I never thought would interest
me.)
Fantasy: I will keep my multiple hundreds 25mm dwarf army and build up some
enemies... I am unsure whether I want 6mm or 10mm for 'mass' battle rules
(which I am looking to buy eventually unless I write my own strange brew.)
I don't plan to pass on my figures to my girls (my adult sons have no
interest) but I like the intent of your plan. I will probably give them to a
close friend, local club or some young gamer when I pass on to heaven. My wife
knows this and should she die first i have decided to put that in my will.
Enough of this part of the thread.
Funny, you said "... I chose to go with 6/10mm when Microarmor was king,
now I wish I had not waited." I regret not going to 6mm earlier. Different
experiences determine our preferences (in part at least) it seems.
