I have some 15mm buildings which I'm busily painting, and it's time to do the
windows. Black is a bit too harsh, but I haven't figured out

My personal preference is for a medium blue-grey (as if they are
reflecting a cloudy sky), which you can either add "reflective streaks" to or
not depending on how fancy you want to get.

I generally paint the window solid black, put a blue-grey splotch in the

center, and then make a few streaks of sky blue at about a 45 degree angle.

Then I give the whole window a coat of gloss.

Silver with a gloss coat over it works for windows, esp. if you're doing
SF/futuristic buildings. Maybe just a bit of blue, in the centre?

Windows often do look gloss black from a distance, though. Especially cars &
other vehicles.

Light blue with white reflection highlights.
