Subject: Overwatch House Rules

Hi guys and gals (haven't seen any of the latter, but know they exist!)

After a long and weary discussion with Mike (actually, I think he'll be the
one getting worn down..... I do tend to go on...), I think I'll agree with him
that the game can be played without covering the three or four situations I
can come up with where an Overwatch action is (I think) needed or useful. But
to me, it just doesn't feel quite right 'as is' and so I've written up my
house rules on Overwatch.

So, you can take a look at them if you are interested in allowing your units
to have a "covering" or "opportunity" type action. There are some situations
that occur that I believe are a little bit to incredible otherwise. (Be
forewarned, there is a lot of text on this page, but once you get a look
you'll realize the logic behind it is pretty consistent and learning to use
these rules isn't that hard, although it can cause a convoluted scenario once
in a while). For those who like simplicity of rules, ignore it. It isn't
necessary for you to have fun, and SG2 is fine without it. For those who like
detail and (I think) a little bit more real flavour, give it a spin.

If I've written it up poorly, or explained things poorly, there is a mailto
link on that page and I'll try to explain things better directly in person
(via directed email).

Hi Thomas,

Sorry if I am about to sound like a devil's advocate here but unless I missed
something off the web page I would like to be so bold as to suggest there is
something missing from the Overwatch Rule.

That is; if you place a squad in Overwatch (also this would apply to an
ambush; an ambush essentailly is an Overwatch), there should be something to
reflect Fire Discipline and potential loss of such. That is if an opportunity
target arises outside of the designated Overwatch area then the squad would be
'tempted' into taking a shot at it. Perhaps a
simple roll against Quality/Leadership to stay on Overwatch.

For those of you who might say that this suggestion is an unecessary
complication; please note that the Overwatch Rule itself is a complication of
the standard SGII and whilst I quite like it we really should follow through
on good ideas.
