For the Crew Down Under:
I've recently come into ownership of some OU ships. I think by size they must
be the DD (they're about the same size as the Brigade Models Peled destroyer).
Anyone have any stats for them they'd care to share with me? If so, post 'em
or mail em to me offlist. I'd be glad to have a workable design (its an even
bigger plus if someone has an SSD to go with the design of course!). I look
forward to using them sometime with OU SG2 force in a combined scenario. I
also need some painting scheme suggestions.

BTW - I look forward to getting some more of these ships. They are very
5th element-ish and I like their styling.
BTW2 - Anyone know where I can find FT scale cylon raider type ships and
viper type ships (Not Vipers or Not Raiders)? Now they've started
re-running BSG here on Space... I feel a Starbuck moment coming on...
(After the battle where the 10 battlestars were nuked, they had 67 fighters
aboard...I wonder what their normal complment was?)

Funny, I built an FT scale (ie about 8mm long) Viper only the other day.
Haven't done a Cylon raider yet but give me time...
Don't know when we'll get around to releasing them - no sooner than May
/
June, certainly.
Whoops, damn, sorry, that was supposed to go off list (still, if St Jon can
do, what chance to we mere mortals have of getting the right 'send to' address
?)

Reviresco does not have good pictures of these minis on their site

they were the the 'Gnat Gunship' for the Viper and the 'Ralnai Corvette' for
the Cylon Raider. They may be a bit big for FT scale though and look to be a
bit pricey.

It was almost twenty years ago I bought some of the Ralnai Fighters. Later I
got to thinking they might work for raiders. Wish like heck I'd had seen the
corvettes instead.
Price doesn't scare me, but only as they'd be good for the BG board game,
not as six-to-a-counter FT-size fighters.

I assumed that you both obviously had M$-for-UK-export e-mail software.
Damn
insidious, no? It even deleted your 'not-'s from 'not-Viper' and 'not-
raider'. ;->=

G'day Tom,

Well just to inncrease your options....
Derek's wing/branch (whatever the heck the term is for the navy) of the
OU has the following DD
ANZAC class DD Mass 36 NPV 125 Hull Avg (11 boxes) Thrust 4 FTL 1 class2
(front 3 arcs) 2 class1
1 SMR-extended (front 3 arcs)
2 PDS standard sensors 1 fire control 1 ADFC
ships names of the class include Arunta Southland Ballarat Vampire Vendetta
Monowai Otago
The pain scheme for this fleet is blood red with some yellow paneling (missile
hatch type panels) and orange on the hemispheres. Exhaust ports
are silvery-gunmetal.
Hope that helps

Great, Tony! Do let us know when they're out! I've wanted not-Vipers
for a long time. Not-Raiders would be equally welcome, although a
reasonable first attempt can be made by taking NSL heavy fighters
(Wespes) and cutting the long neck off; what you get is an oval-shaped
craft that's a little small by comparison with other FT fighters, but
still looks quite like a Raider -- and blows up just as well <g>.
And after you've done those, Tony, how about some not-EDD Starfighters
from Buck Rogers?
> (After the battle where the 10 battlestars were nuked, they had 67
Minor nit-pick: there were only 5 battlestars at Cimtar, IIRC, and 4
got fragged. The others (from a non-canonical but generally accepted
total of 12) had been destroyed over the years or were off raiding Gammoray
<g>.
We have reason to believe that the Galactica can carry 150 fighters, but
that's including a squadron from another ship. From that, and on admittedly
skimpy evidence, I've concluded that the standard complement
of a Battlestar was around 120, in 4 squadrons of thirty -- with a
large margin of error.

That was what was displayed on screen. After researching what's out there, I
found several missing links in the chronological order of events from various
BG sources. In one report (alternate script) there was a sixth battlestar that
was not stationed with the five shown. It was attacked first and destroyed
before the others could be warned. Some Vipers (very few) escaped and came
back to warn the fleet.
In total there was one battlestar for every colony, so that makes twelve of
the original colonies. In potential ideas for a new BG movie, a 13th
battlestar might exist that was called the Atlantis...a link to Earth, the
supposedly 13th colony.
> We have reason to believe that the Galactica can carry 150 fighters,
I have seen a variety of specs on this as well, from less than 100 to a little
over. All the specs for the basestars seem to show, Raider complement at
nearly 2x to 3x a battlestars fighter complement. I just model the number of
squadrons in FT by one of these ratios.
Interesting note: The battlestars are supposedly over a hundred years
old...
that's some service record, eh?
I will be running two BG events this year at GenCon. Both are based on the The
Great War, where the Colonials first go to war with the Cylons. I will also be
running more BG events at PentaCon with perhaps macrotures like what
the Sci-Supply group did with Star Wars at GenCons past...should be very
exciting.

Alternate script? Where did you find this? I would love to read it. Is it an
official script? (ie by the show producers?)
> In total there was one battlestar for every colony, so that makes
Mr Thurston during an interview stated that there was no mention anywhere of
how many battlestars there were supposed to be. The show only states that
there was 12 colonies. Most "12 battlestar fleet" rumors can be traced back to
a list that Gary was running past someone else (I forget who) that just
happened to have 12 names for consideration. (To name the other ships at the
peace conference.)
> >We have reason to believe that the Galactica can carry 150 fighters,
My friend and I have guessed that a "battle" squadron was about 25 fighters
(give or take) And that the Galactica carried 6 squadrons -- we think
two were
in storage/training.
> I have seen a variety of specs on this as well, from less than 100 to
According to the show, a Cylon Baseship could carry 400 Raiders...In the
"Living Legend" episode Baltar has three baseships, with the equivalent of 1
more --
fighters stationed on Gamoray (however you spell it...) He expected to crush
the Galactica until the Pegasis showed up.
> Interesting note: The battlestars are supposedly over a hundred years
Really cool. That indicates that their technology was built to last.

Thanks for the kind words. At GenCon 2000 I will run the next chapter of
Sci-Fi Crossover, Return of the Executor. The Star Wars Empire pulls
out the big guns when a Super Star Destroyer shows up (Kenner SW collector's
fleet) along with some escorts. Opposing the tyrany will be the usual
(?!)
ships from B5, Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, and Space: Above and Beyond,
plus the Trek ships will have a Battle Tug and a new fleet of ships from the
Star Blazers Earth Defence Force will make an appearance and possibly a small
fleet of Star Wars Rebels will also show up.

Check at kobol.com and related BG sites and you will find lots of interesting
info. The twelve were never "official", but seemed to be referenced a lot of
BG history, stories as well as paperback novels.
> In total there was one battlestar for every colony, so that makes

In the first espisode Adama mentions a 13th colony known as Earth, which is
where the collected fleet intends to go.
> My friend and I have guessed that a "battle" squadron was about 25
The Galactica's Viper contingent was made up of fighters from lost battlestars
after the peace conference fiasco. More fighters were added
after the surprise meeting with the Pegasus. I'm not sure what the total was,
but believe it might have been referenced in at least one episode. I change
the fighter compliment in FT based on what level I plan to play the game. If I
want to do a large battle, I make the ship designs smaller and reduce squadron
strength as well. This is where having a ratio helps keep the flavor of the
show.

I haven't seen 400 stated before, but in many references I have found 300 as
the total carried.
