Subject: Re: OU modular ship rationale
Why modular ships for the OU? My basic problem is that the sculptor for Eureka, who makes the OU range, isn't exactly prolific. Now I happen to like his work a lot, but after an initial burst of 4 ships, there has been exactly 1 produced in the last 2 years. And that was a conversion by another sculptor. The OU range consists of the following ships: Frigate - which is essentially a destroyer cut in half. Destroyer Light Cruiser Heavy Cruiser Escort Carrier That's it. There may be more to follow, but then again, there may not be. So in order to have a decent fleet, one model must be able to represent a variety of ships with different capabilities. All else follows. Other constraints: you might note that the hull integrity follows the old FB1 restriction of 30-40-50% of mass, not 33 or 47% for example. And the Torpedo module has an extra FC with it, as FB1 didn't make clear that Pulse Torps no longer need a different FC from beams.
