SUpposedly GZG makes a series of Aliens that look pretty much like teh
Martians from Mars Attacks, hich of course would be VERY cool. Can GZG confirm
this. There was no pictures of thes ethings on the site. if so I would love a
platoon or two of them.

Are there any weapons in SG that simulate the good old fashion diintergrating
ray gun?

Well Nic Robson has had something VERY similar to what you describe down at
the club. Your good old fashioned bulging head bug eyed Martian with Raygun!
But of course not the aliens from Mars Attack, no sir not really like them,
different colour eyes for starters!

Yes, we now have eight figures in the Bug-Eyed Martian (BEM) range -
real
'50s B-movie style aliens with "hairdryer" rayguns! No piccies yet, but
the list is in the latest update to the online catalogue (see Paul Owen's
recent posts). As for SGII rules, you'll have to invent your own till we come
up with something!

Could be just what I need to get back into painting again :-)

How about some FT ships of a similar vintage: either disc shaped, or roughly
conical with fins?

How about FP 3, Impact D12, perhaps Range max Close? They seem pretty lethal.

Isn't this what 'Bugs Don't Surf' might want to address? (grin)

Well, we are already thinking about a little "scout saucer" in 25mm, maybe big
enough to land a squad of Martians in the backwoods.... As to FT size ones,
does anyone else think there is a market for some
saucers and maybe some Flash Gordon/Dan Dare style rocketships? BTW,
Scotia do a couple of nominally 6mm Flying Saucers (larger one is about an
inch diameter) that will do for FT, or as Vree ships for B5.

I got some of these Martians from Jon while over in the UK, although I didn't
paint them (I bought two sets and traded one for the painting on the other)
they came out looking very nice when finished. Now all I need are some little
tiny plastic bubbles to put on their heads.:)

An unequivocal yes for Flash Gordon style ships. They would be great.

Funny, when I think Flash Gordon, I visualize the flying irons/boxcars
of
the Buster Crabbe series. ;->=

I've said it before, for the senuous, soft curves so familiar to those of us
who were lads in the fifties, the TSR Sathar ships had some interesting
entries. BTW, does an one know if these were done by Heritage? As usual, boxes
at home.

I would, indeed, be interested in seeing a couple/three sets( I really
think these boys would need their own enemies), but I think it'd be difficult
getting the designs right to appeal to most folks inner visions.

One image is of long, slender with sweeping tail fins sprouting from as
much as half way up the sides. Pointed and boat-tailed, usually the
heroic explorer or defender of the space ways.

Another would be harsh, angular, with jagged, maybe sawtooth, edges.
Punked-out Kra'Vak? Usually the bad guys, but Star Frontiers reversed
it.

Flying saucers are great, but I've not seen any that match up with
Forbidden Planet/Day Earth Stood Still/Twilight Zone beasts of my youth.

One of my FT fleets is based on the old Flash Gordon type ships. I used
bombs and missiles from a 1/144th scale weapons set as the bodies of the
ships and added wings and fins. I've even named the ships after characters
from the Flash Gordon series (plus some named after characters from the Marx
Bros. movie Duck Soup). I've armed the ships with early style lasers and such.
Haven't really used them in a serious game yet.

Don't know about the market at large, but I'd buy every one of them. I love
the 50's sensibility in science fiction design. I've got two original matte
paintings from Forbidden Planet hanging over my desk.

Bring 'em on!

I'd but these ships also. I'd love to recreate the opening of Mars Attack!
with all those saucers heading for earth. I'll have to check out the Scotia
saucers.

Anyone else think it's a little funny to hear 'Flash Gordon' and 'serious
game' together in the same sentance? ;->

Originals.

Inherited from my grandfather (Henri Hillinck), a matte painter in the 30s,
40s, and 50s.

Wish to God I had some of his work from King Kong, but it's long gone

Since I didn't find any saucers (or not enough for a consistent fleet) I
scratchbuilt my fleet. (Wooden buttons are *soooo* adaptable, don't
you think? Also a "yo-yo kit". 3, 5, and 7mm "acrylic cabochons" and
"acrylic faceted round gems", plus the turrets off an old 14" SDF-1
model for engine pods.)
