Someone said something amusing to me about "no politics on list", and I
agreed to stop posting politically-slanted items.

Laserlight, I think this qualifies too.

Just a reminder,

And given that a # of our list members are currently/have been deployed,
I see nothing wrong with it.

Supporting the troops is perhaps political. But as Doc said, we've got members
of this community that are over there right now. If I knew what John A. looked
like I'd have kept a close eye for him on the feeds here. As I don't, I can't.
But I still look for AVLBs and other folks that I know on TV and hope they
don't come back via Germany (or worse).

At any rate, I think this topic does not qualify as political for the
previously mentioned reasons. Our friends are in harms way and we're thinking
about them. Nothing wrong with that.

PS Are You really want John to know you weren't thinking about him while he
was over there?

You are of course correct, that is unless we want to actually avoid a flamewar
on the list.

Well, John isn't here so it shouldn't be that big...He'll be sad he missed it.
I can imaging his response....

Damn I hope he's ok. He's going to be in quite the demand for all those canal
and river crossings in Bagdad.

I think - from comments John made before leaving, and the current news -
that he's probably on a ship somewhere around the Straits of Hormuz, having
spent a few weeks sailing in circles off Turkey. He's probably worried he's
going to miss the interesting parts of the show... I know he
said he'd volunteered as a shipboard vehicle-babysitter, and I think his
Corp is the one that was supposed to deploy to Turkey before the Turks decided
not to follow all of Washington's script.

Look, my comment about keeping pro/anti-war msgs off-list was based on
the
wording of the original forward - it had a pro-war slant, IMO.
"Defending our freedom" and similar propaganda not applicable to the current
situation.

It was NOT based on contempt for troops anywhere, onlist or off. I'm not going
to fall into the trap of blaming the soldiers for the orders they're given.

Now, if anyone really, really wants to debate further, let's get it OFF
LIST. I was going to talk to Laserlight about it off-list, until the
thread resurfaced here.

The 4th ID started unloading their ships at the beginning of the week. Which
means he's either waiting off shore for a clear berth or he's running up a
road with his AVLB on a transporter.

<grin> There are several ways to take that, few of them good...

I do want him to stay safe - we had grand political
discussions/flamewars!

Any further on this would get outright political instantly, so I'll leave it
at this.
