Well I've just had a most unusual start to a job interview.
As some of you know I'm a Librarian. So I sit down in the interview room for a
new job and the first thing the female library manager (probably in her mid
forties) says to me is "we've seen your website" so I'm thinking hang on I
never made any reference to it in my application? So I wait for comments about
the site, and I get from the library manager "I'm mainly into historical
gaming but I like your site and the painted miniatures"
That was yesterday and I'm still in shock:)
Spent so long explaining the hobby or apologising for it that when it hit me
in the face I didn't know what to say!
Just thought I'd share.

Hopefully *we* can say "congratulations on the new job" :-)
Not OT to this list, but it might be interesting to come up with Benefits of
Being a Gamer, for example: learned more history, more economics, more about
other cultures and languages etc.
LOL - let us know how it goes Jeremey!!

Ta.
When I went for a Job Interview with C3 Pty Ltd back in 1983, I was the only
candidate

You better hope she doesn't read this mailing list, or you're sunk!
> "we've seen your website"
When I was hiring, I made it a habit to do a quick google search on the major
candidates. It's surprising what you can find on the internet...

Google and other places. Well worth it.

Which is why I only shared this with this list and not the Miniatures page
messageboards;)

I'll have to watch this in the future, I had never thought of the possibility
of someone looking at my website to check me out before an interview.
Actually during the interview one of the other panel commented that all they
could offer was water for a refreshment and not Chimay. Chimay being a one of
my favourite beers which means they also looked at my beer review web page!
So not sure on the job now. As a friend pointed out to me "before you even
walked into the room they knew you were an alcoholic nerd"
Nicely put I thought;)

Sorry, that's not going to help you. I did a google search of myself, a lot of
my posts to this list were there via the gzg list archives.

Ouch. I feel your pain.

Unfortunately, I work for a Phone Center company with,
as I've said, has some nigh-unto-Nazi rules regarding
acceptable internet use, and they've blocked your page as being
inappropriate.....

It can work afterwards too. One friend was confronted by her boss because he
did a web search on the company's name and some not so nice comments she'd
made about the company was the first hit.
Dejanews and Google have lots of my writings going back more than 10 years.
Hows that for long time history?

What sometimes happens is that they'll decide they don't like a site, so
they'll block ALL sites from the same ISP. So sometimes a site can get
blocked for the sins of another site... :-(

No, trust me, they're that anal. they've also blocked WOTC.com, and nigh unto
every gaming site imagineable. I work in a call center where we take calls for
a
software company -- try imagining how many of our
agents are gamers.....
I understand, my wife works for of the Cardiac Home Health Care agencies tied
to one of the top 100 (like top 10 IIRC) hospitals in the USA and
they block anything remotely non-medical/nursing - like the BBC web site
(I have to send her copies of the articles since the URL is blocked.)
But then they lost their web access (and a "lot" more) to a virus attack a few
weeks ago and they still have not opened up web access to the system. And are
thinking about NEVER opening it up. The damage was
pretty brutal but such an approach seems a bit over-reacting for a major
medical facility to completely block all internet linkage...
6 mm figures and 1:6K warships are my main interest. It's not the size of the
figure in the fight but the size of the fight in the figure that determines
victory. Or something like that... Gracias, Glenn

Yeah, I agree. Too bad they're not a maternity hospital, or the Baby &

to mind would be wickedly clever of me. ;-)

Naaa... it'll be all the pictures of Chainmail Girl....
;-)
I vaguely remember hearing/reading/seeing that. Doesn't Em4 (IIRC) make
them a mixed group of 12 or 15 in plastic?
I just realized I have at least one ship (won one for a demo - Piranha
or some such) and maybe found one in a grab bag at a local miniature
flea market - could use a one or two to make a squadron or two for FT -
so who makes them now?
And do they have pictures of the figures?

EM4 does indeed sell a set of 12 plastic SD ships. I believe they were from
the original boxed set of the SD rules.
Go to www.ironcrown.com. In their Silent Death section you can find
top-down line drawings of all the ships.
