Subject: [OT] Someone Flinched AAR
Someone Flinched! This is an Ogre Miniatures scenario, but would work just as well for DS2 or other 6mm games. Backstory: The war had ground down to a cold, undeclared ceasefire. Neither side believed they had the forces to take out the other. Both sides patrolled the valley, gathering strength from reinforcements. Nerves were set on edge. Something was going to break soon. Twice daily some hotshot in a GEV or tank would push up into the undeclared no-mans-land, just to see if the other side flinched. Today, someone flinched. Map: The table is 5x8'. A road runs the long length of the table (north to south) dividing the table evenly between east and west. There are 2 lakes roughly centered north to south. There is a river running between the lakes. The road crosses the river on a bridge. The west lake has a river running off the map to the west (with a bridge) and a swamp along most of its northern edge. The eastern lake has swamp along most of its south-east edge with 4 streams feeding the swamp running off the east edge of the board. There are 4 large hills (one in each quadrant). And one small hill just south of the western lake an toward the road. There are numerous patches of woods. The road has several cities on it (non-Ogre can use urban areas). Behind the north-west hill is the Paneuropean command post (D1), behind the southwest hill is the Combine command post. Each side has a Howitzer on the hill, in woods, on the hill, just above the command post. The Combine side has slightly less protection from terrain (less woods and cities near the command post). Forces: Paneruopeans: 1x Ogre Fencer (A) 1x Ogre Mk III 1x Howitzer 1x Mobile Howitzer 1x SHvy Tank 4x Hvy Tanks 4x Missile Tanks 6x GEV 6x Lt. GEV 14x Infantry Platoons (3/3) Combine: 1x Ogre Mk V 1x Howitzer 2x SHvy Tanks 8x Hvy Tanks 4x Missile Tanks 12x GEV 6x Lt. GEV 14x Infantry Platoons (3/3) Setup: 3 Infantry Platoons may be set up between 12-24" from the north-south center of the board. All other units must be set up between 24-48" from the center. Conversions for non-Ogre: Replace Fencer with 20 armor units Replace Ogre Mk III with 18 armor units Replace Ogre Mk V with 26 armor units. Replace both howitzers with off-board artillery (3 fire missions ammo) Replace mobile howitzer with on-board artillery (3 fire missions ammo) GEVs are amphibious Combine uses units of 3-5 vehicles. Paneuropean uses units of 5-10 vehicles. Group infantry into companies of 3 platoons. I ran this game at CAPCON (http://www.mgaosu.org/capcon.html) this past weekend. I was very happy with the results. Both sides destroyed the other's command post on the exact same turn (called a draw). PE side has much more punch, but not enough forces to advance and cover the multiple approach routes at the same time. The Combine has more units, but less punch.
