Okay, this is a bit OT, but since Japanese starships (and Robotech* in
particular) have come up on the list of late, I figure I'm not too far
outta line here. ^_^
Animeigo is working on releasing a subtitled version of SDF Macross as a
DVD box set. They are "literally going over each episode scene by scene,
correcting errors, erasing film defects (scratches and dust), and quite
frankly making it look better than the original negatives!" (per the
website, below). Anyone (in the US or Canada, at least -- my apologies
to
non-North American list members, they don't have a license for anywhere
else! ^_^;; ) who is willing to buy the set should go to the site below
and
register for a pre-order, 'cause it'll let you save a *bundle* off the
list price.

And thus endeth the [OT] announcement... though, I suppose I should note
that I have no connections to Animeigo, other that believing they're one of
the finest US suppliers of anime (apart from the fact that they don't
release enough -- of course, if they released more, quality might
suffer,
so...).
Err, Umm, I think it's shipping. At least I think this is the DVD set that's
sitting on my coffee table at home... Have to go check!

You probably have the Robotech DVD. Not the same thing, Harmony Gold "adapted"
Macross to make part one of Robotech. Same graphics, same mechs, different
storyline and dialog.

That's probably ADV's Robotech release -- it's all of Robotech, which
includes parts of (but not all of) Macross, Southern Cross, and Mospaeda. They
also altered the storyline to fit the three shows together, and (of course)
it's dubbed in English.
Animeigo's release will just be Macross, but all of it (including the bits
snipped to make Robotech), with the original storyline and Japanese
dialogue (no English dub, just a subtitle -- Harmony Gold didn't want 2
English versions, and of course there's no English dub for the bits that
were snipped...), and Animeigo is spending $$ to seriously clean up the
transfer. They have some split cells on the website (macross.animeigo.com)
showing before & after images... it looks *really* nice!
Okay, enough of this outta me. ^_^;
