thanks to the folks who mentioned this show!
SST:RN has good plot, decent dialog/interaction and
good graphics. it also seems to have a pretty good mix of the book and movie.
i have been taping SST:RN and get anxious to get home to watch. too bad each
show is only 30 mins....
thanks again, guys!
btw, any other new sci-fi shows? i am having B5 withdrawl
since B5:Crusade recently ended. anyone picking up Crusade to continue?

I'm very excited about this show. It seems the writers/developers are
all hard SF combat fans (who probably play quake or starseige too, based on
the music and sound effects) and I see lots of almost stargrunt inspired items
in there. The writing for the show is well done and more mature than the
movie. ALl the tech makes sense, and Human weapons don't
fuck around. they're not above nuking (well aniti-mattering) anything
that could lead them into deep doo doo. The SSTs carry IPWs with GL
launchers and have the option for Heavy Gear-sized walker support. They
have effective and lethal air support and I have seen some
Hopper/fighter ACM.
The bug forces are neat, I've seen: Warriors (CC specialists), Blister bugs
(acid firing direct fire specialists) the Tanker, the Plasma bug, and the
Hoppers (which swarm up to battalion strength like Bees) We've yet to see the
brain of the queen. The skinnies are there also with this constrictor gun thing
which fires a blob of GEL that crushes stuff when it gets on you, plus they
have jai alai like Grenade launching things.
The planet they've been fighting on has a double sun and is pretty barren
including acid rivers and other such things. I'm taping every episode.
Supposedly 40 were produced.
There are some constraints seeing that this is a kids show so it's not
terrible bloody. Lots of bug deaths but human deaths are more implied than
shown in graphic detail. Though losing their cyborg the other day was a sad
event. (My buddy's kid was crying).
A great show.

I have to ditto that. The movie was overall 'okay'... and just that. For the
most part it (the movie) was just plain stupid. It's kinda embarassing that
the *cartoon* version is very much superior!
Man... the show even has decent characters and plots! LOL!
I personally love the mix of the book and the movie. The writers of the series
pay attention to both sources and wrap them together very nicely... the they
borrow from other elements of the genre! Weren't those drop ships absolutely
COOL!:)
I think THIS SHOW is excellent fodder for DSII and SGII. Anyone have any
ideas about minis?
Infantry??? (I think the GZG's NAC Marines are pretty close)
Infantry Walkers???
AFVs ??? (The ones I've seen are just APCs- few weapons)
Aerospace Craft???
Bugs ???
> Scott Case wrote:

The only problem with using NAC marines is that they aren't in full body
armor.
And the SST/RN armor is much less bulky than GZG PA. ACtually I think a
fairly close match is either going to be UN troops. (though NSL troops work
too).
> Infantry Walkers ???
Well I'm thinking you could probably use Some Battletech walkers. Even though
they are meant for what? 6 or 8mm, they would be around the right size for a
SST/RN walker in the SG range. That or maybe heavy gear.
> AFVs ??? (The ones I've seen are just APCs- few weapons)
Well some of the GZG stuff would be good for this but then again the Galoob
line might have something nice too. (LVTPs or ALiens combat cars)
> Aerospace Craft ???
Again I'd go Galoob. There's an SST TAC fighter in almost perfect 25mm range
and perhaps they make a dropship too? The Galoob ALiens drop ship is around
also though the line is discontinued.
> Bugs ???
Well in 25mm ya got two r three options: 1. GZG Bugs but they are expensive
considering you need a lot.
2.Galoob bugs but they are hard to acquire in large numbers (I wish they sold
individual components)
3. Party store spiders. The big2" kind. You buy them by the gross for a 2 or 3
bucks.
ALso in 6m (DS) I have party store ants by the gross and also 200 GZG bugs.
Does anyone know whether this is going to be out in the UK, and if so when?
Cheers
On a similar note... is this airing in the States. If so when and where. I've
seen a bunch of discussion on the list regarding this show, but haven't
While I don't know the answer to that, if you are able to watch shows like War
Planets, Voltron, or Beast Wars somewhere over there then odds are that SST
will be on that channel at some point.

My favorite line from SST: Troops are fighting in a battle but theres a
momentary lull. (Delivered in perfectly appropriate tone of sarcasm and
frustration.)
Soldier One: Look at Rico, he must be crazy! Soldier Two: Dude here we are
fightin' huge bugs on freakin' Pluto. We're ALL crazy.
I guess you had to be there...
Some people are catching it on the SCI FI channel, like 0730 or 0800. I watch
it daily on WB which is a network (Warner Brotehrs?). Check you cable listings
for
that station. It is on at 0800 Mon-Fri. (BTW on my TV guide listing,
which you can look up online, they had it for 0730 on WB which is wrong.) It
really is clear as mud.

There is a very interesting news item (with some piccies) on the show in the
latest issue of SFX (No.56, Oct 99 issue, out now in the UK, dunno how
late it gets to the US). Still no hint as to if/when it'll air here
though.

I know one time and place for SST in the US:
Sci-fi Channel @ 6:30 Central Time. It comes on Monday through Thursday,
but
be careful about Monday if you are taping it- at least once they showed
the same episode on both Thursday AND Monday.
Actually in my area they showed about 8 episodes then are rerunnig it from the
beginning. I know they've done 40. Must be some marketting ploy. (Lord knows
they're doing a lousy job advertising).

Over here in Aussie land, we've got little hope of seeing this show.
If someone is taping it in the US, would they be willing to part with video
tapes (appropriately compensated for, of course) to an Aussie who would like
to see this series?
(Before people pipe up about NTSC and PAL, I have an NTSC compatible VCR and
TV...)
Anyone? Anyone?:)

www..scifi.com's schedule bot lists all the episodes titles by day. They seem
to be doing a LOT of repeats, so it interesting trying to get them all. Also,
they appear to be showing pretty out of order. Oh well.
Anyone got an episode list? Or a web site with an episode list?

Geez, Mr Sadler. I was just about to ask the same thing.
If anyone in the U.S. IS taping the show and is willing to make copies and
send them to a poor, isolated Aussie (and be compensated of course) it would
be very much appreciated. Reply via private email please.
Oh, and I too have an NTSC to PAL playback VCR as well so there's no problem
there, I just don't have the Long Play feature.
Many thanks in advance!
