I picked up the first 2 sourcebooks and will pick up the rest eventually
(I
am a space combat game addict and must have everything that comes out, plus
I'm always looking for more, hint, hint;)

Quad-S (Strategic Starship Skirmish System) is hex based. Each race has
their own sourcebook and everything you need to play is in that sourcebook.
Each race is different with weapons, defensive systems, and movement varying
by race. Some will use a simplified energy allocation, some don't deal with
energy at all (like FT). Each ship has a diagram similar to FT which takes up
a full page (but this could be reduced). Screens can be alabative like FT2.5
armor or limit hits like screens. It all depends on the race your playing. The
author pushes fair play and no cheese. There are no construction system
currently available.

Overall complexity is around FT to a bit more complex, depending on the race.
Sourcebook quality is pretty good quality Desk top published with a color
cover and b&w interior with a spiral binding. Be the first one in your area to
buy a copy and get some price breaks. If you get all the sourcebooks it would
get pricey (6x$15) but you don't need them all to play.

If anyone has specific questions, let me know,

Thanks, Dean! I've an order in for the first two books, along with some 'used'
items the author was floggin' on the net. Glad to hear the one fellow that
thought he might be being cheated probably hasn't waited long
enough. ;->=

Don't know if it's still going, but the author also had a 'limited time offer'
of reduced price IF you're the first one in a town to order a copy.

Dean: Sounds very much as I was expecting, and glad to hear it. Like you, I
tend to buy every space combat system under the sun; I'm still waiting to see
if T$R will be putting one out for Alternity (notice how I've paused waiting
to hear 'they already have!'). I already own, I think, every one that was
produced in or near Traveller. One question, though: are the pieces that are
similar to FT enough so to use for creating new 'races' for our FT universes?

While I remember fondly the old FTII four firing arcs (yes, I know, I can
still use them), which the new system both complicated (a 50% increase in the
number of arcs!) and simplified (no more firing arcs partially overlapping
turning points), the match to hex of six arcs does make fitting
to hex-based games seem more plausible. Not that I've tried, yet.
