I was a bit non-plussed by it as well. Subtle

Tropical Marxist Paradise my ass.

How about a more temperate "Happy Canada Day to our friends north of the
border that have fought beside our own in thick wars far from our shores and
plucked our merchant men from the freezing ocean." Seriously, Canada is a damn
good ally as are the other Commonwealth Nations. We may not see eye to eye on
all things, but you guys are better than all the rest and I'd rather have
Canada up north than some other nations.

So, 'Huzzah' for our Canadian Cousins!

I think best expressed as:

"Look, folks. This has thread the potential to degrade into a nasty flame war.
As much as I believe in the free flow of ideas and healthy political debate, I
don't think that this is the place to do it. I've seen friendships break up
over this...and I hate to see it happen here."
