I did dig it up, and on this count I was wrong. M113 ACAV does indeed have
a closed fighting compartment. As I said, my interest in the post-WWII
period is very limited.

Rather beside the point, though. If Drake says the Slammers combat car is
based on his grandfather's pink Cadillac, then it bloody well is, period.
