Hi all
You know, Laserlight made a good point (what I expect from Chris, even with
sympathies to the South of Mason-Dixon...*wink*) about the list being a
tad daunting to its newest members. Here's an idea....
Why don't we (the body of the list) who want people to understand our
backgrounds use the wonderful tool known as the World Wide Web to create a web
page with a brief Bio of the listmembers.
This could serve multifold purposes:
1) it could be refererenced in the intro mail that all of us get when we
sign on --> and it would give someone new a context for who they are
talking to
2) it could be of great interest even to existing list members who want to
learn more about their fellows
3) it could provide another player location device (though I'd still have it
link to the Player Location Page)
What do you think? GoodIidea? Bad Idea? Waste of Time?
If it seems like a good idea, maybe someone (okay I spoke first...) could look
into it. In general, I think it would mean sending out one brief suggestion on
the types of info sought (generally things like games you play, experience in
the gaming or game design field, age perhaps, maybe what
your alter-ego does in the non-Tuffleyverse). Then of course, the victim
(volunteer) would take this info, format it up nicely, and post it all on said
web page.
So? What say you, brethren and sistren? Or is this another
TomFlightOfFantasy(tm)?

I thought it's a great idea. My resume and details are on my site in the URL
below.
I think this would be great.
If there is a FAQ (and if there isn't, there probably should be) that could
the place for it.
There is obviously a lot of FT stuff floating around in member websites and
rings, but having one place for key list info, FAQ, links, etc. can be very
useful.
Other lists, for other games, have even put up summeries of arguments that
reoccur in the list on such a page, so that the next time ("Oh, no! --
not the 'Are martians really green thread' again!") you can cut it short and
send people to read what has been discussed before.
Just one newby's opinion...

Funnily enough, was just thinking the same thing myself!:)

What a brilliant idea! Just imagine guys (and doll)...fewer reoccuring
arguments! How about putting the "old arguments" page linked to the others
(player
loc/bios/archives/ect.)

Yes we have some subjects that are strictly TABOO around here...one example is
GW...everyone relax...:-)

It sounds like a good idea, Tom!
I have an FT page as part of my site that I need content for. I have the
GenCon tournament rules up there, as well as Fleet Book errata. It would seem
a logical place for it. Also, no banner ads! I pay C$5 a month for 5 MB of
space, but it's an additional C$0.05 per MB (you read it right... 5 cents a
month per extra meg) so I have access to a lot of nice, banner free space.
I'd like to have an idea if people are interested before I started setting
anything up. Is this something people want?
What info would we want/allow up there? Obviously privacy would be
important, so nothing would be required, but I think some sort of address
information (geographic location), an idea of the players' preferred GZG, a
short bio, and link to their own web pages would be a good starting point.
Would we
want/allow pictures (I have the space...)?
Of course, if someone else wants to take this over, fine by me! But I think
it's a good idea and I have the resources.

That's not as clearly written as it might have been, Tom. Try this: "I don't
just think it's a good idea solely because of its
A suggestion: If you're going to create a directory like this, see if the
people who run the Player locator pages would be willing to do it. It just
seems natural to have all the information together.

Well, my old Player Location page has closed, however I'm working on an
Opponent Database for stargrunt.com (and was doing so before the suggestion
was raised on list) which will allow people to enter their details and,
hopefully, edit them later if required. So this would be a good place for
someone to put their bio.
