What an awful shame. I wonder in what dire way they will turn it into shit
before our very eyes.

Now, now. While I'd rather not get into the GW-Holy-War issue, they
do make quality figs, assuming you like that style. While I don't think anyone
would argue that they are overpriced, their production standards are as good
as anyone else in the business.

I strongly suspect that they're trying to "diversify" into a more
mass-market based game to broaden their customer base.

That's just Turnip the Hobbit by adoption... I must now retreat to a bomb
shelter before the Pratchett loving Narns track me down and lynch me;)

And for the record, the OU ships I have just ordered are called, CVLs: Black
Swan and Lyerbird. Other interesting names to follow.

Anyone else notice the statement from GW was by the "Chief Financial Officer
of Games Workshop"

So at least it's not just about making money then:)

How about a converted CVL into a cloaked Intruder/Raider - Liar Bird aka
as 'the bird' to it's crew members.... Best I can do on *any* notice. I
/do/ make a great audience - I laugh at most any joke... even if it
wasn't meant as a joke {refer to upper management as an example}

My big fear is that the game will be magic heavy. Tolkien had a wonderfully
subtle magic. No fireballs, lightning bolts, death spells. Most of the magic
was infused into objects, IIRC. The exceptions I remember are: 1) Gandalf
adding horses to the foam on a released river. 2) The imprisonment of Gandalf
(hmmm. I can't remember if the BOOKS had stated if he was imprisoned by a
spell or not. The cartoon movie did). All the other uses of magic that I
remember were done with or through objects (fireworks, swords, armor, crystal
balls, rings, etc.).

Perhaps we should take another look at FMA Skirmish or Stargrunt II with
medieval extensions.

And, yes, I do fear a 28mm Gandalf with each bicep bigger than his head.

Well knowing workshop they will take every bit of money you got and leave with
a game that you hate and they will drop it two months later.

I would like to clarify one thing about this. GW has acquired the rights to
the MOVIE license, not the books. From what I hear on the GW lists it's
possible the first will be a skirmish (54 mm?) game ala Inquisitor (whatever
that is).

Resume standard anti-GW frothing.

Also Gandalf used fireballs or lightning when he battle alone on the hill
where the others were seeking him. They observed the flashes of light, etc.
Some heavy duty magic went on went Gandalf battled the Balrog as well. But
generally speaking Gandalf's spells were subtle and objects of magic were the
big guns - the rings, Glamdring, Sting, the broken sword reforged, etc.

Lynch you? That's rather barbaric - we'll either turn the Narn bat squad
loose or perhaps let Mr.Tulip loose on you. (you have read 'The Truth',
haven't you?)
