> Hey Alex,
Well to to answer this and an earlier question, GROPOS will have some basic
units for each of the "Big Four" races of the show (Earth, Minbari, Narn, and
Centauri) as well as all of the rules, and each of the race books will offer
more units and info for each race as well as eventually offering info
for the different non-aligned races.
The bigger project is something else, but I'm afraid I can't give any info on
the game rules or the bigger project just yet due to my NDA (I'm just going to
check and see how much info I can let out here on this), as soon as I can give
more details and info on the game I will definately post it.
> I'm a little relunctant $$$ wise as the preliminary price for the core
Price wise the minis will be approx. $4.99 a tank, or $20 for a platoon of 4.
Infantry platoons will cost a little less. Units will for the most part be
sold in platoon packs, with a card included that provides all the stats for
the units (you would actually use the card as your unit reference in the
game). They will also at some point offer "company" packs in which you buy a
full company (of whatever type- more on those another time) for a big
discount over platoon costs.
Again, I'm still bound by an NDA on the rules, but as soon as I check I'll
post all the info I can on the rules etc.

Sorry, just wanted to check around make sure I wasn't missing any sites to
direct you too :-)
Well for now I can direct you to b5wars.agentsofgaming.com go to the GROPOS
forum there for lots of general discussion on the game, and of course you can
always post questions etc. as the info from
http://www.agentsofgaming.com/gropos.htm is a little light on the game,
some pics of the minis though. There is a GROPOS mailing list, but it's a been
pretty dead for a while now, probably the GROPOS forum would be your best bet.

Hey Alex,
does the "larger project" mean that GROPOS represents the core rules and the
race supplements expand on those rules??? or is the big one something else
entirely?
I'm a little relunctant $$$ wise as the preliminary price for the core rules
is $50 and each race supplement is $25, IIRC.
thanks,

Fine by me; while some info on the figs were of interest, especially for
use in DS/SG, I stick by my suggestion of details about the games
themselves should be by directions to other discussions.
Thanks for the info so far.
Sorry all for dragging on the OT post...
> Fine by me; while some info on the figs were of interest, especially
Well I've been told they're getting ready to release info on the game, so I
can start dropping info if anyone has any specific questions on the rules. The
rules are specific to B5 for now, but they are being written so that
they will be the main rules set for a generic game- you'll have the
option of designing races from the ground up with certain racial
characteristics etc. then move on to design the vehicles for the races from
hull types up to weapons etc etc. In GROPOS, you build your units based on the
type of company you'll be using (IE for Earth Alliance you see Mechanized
Infantry, Armoured, Air Cavalry etc.). From the lists for each company choice
you get options on the numbers and types of platoons for it and the command
and support units. The game is designed to be played at the Company level and
larger.
I don't know how interested anyone is so I won't go on about it- but if
anyone wants more details, you can check out the GROPOS forum at
b5wars.agentsofgaming.com or email me off list at

That's cool. As others have mentioned, I find the miniatures interesting but
the game mechanics discussion should be off list.

The HG scale is smaller than N scale. 10mm and N scale are almost bang on
accurate.
There are some really awesome N scale buildings. I was in a model railroad
store and saw what they had in the way of buildings (North American, early
20th century). For historicals, there is a lot of stuff. Not sure what you
could adapt for sci-fi, other than trees and terrain.

Why Not?
Retro is cyclical.
And there are those (SCA, RenFair, Civil War (The US one) re-enactors)
who can be (il)logically extrapolated in a SF "nation" I think.
IIRC, certain SF/Fantasy books have used such devices to establish a
background for a story...

John Atkinson once suggested that the troops for an Alarishi sovereignity
militia be chosen at random from *all* miniatures in your collection. I'd have
to say that I think Kataphractoi are a tad unlikely, but then New Los Angeles
is pretty unlikely too. And you have to wonder about the guy who wants to
build, not a Ringworld, but

I would suggest he build a Klein bottle ;-)
Cheers

Hmm. Good point.
And if you're good at kitbashing, most of these buildings are plastic.
You could add/subtract to/from them. You can also turn them into ruins.
I saw one set that was a building slated for demolition. I thought that would
be great for WW2 ruined buildings. No reason you can't use it for
sci-fi.
Customizing modern or historical buildings to add a science fiction look isn't
too hard. I've got a ruined factory building (WWII vintage) with a few Epic
Space Marines (tm) as casualties in the rubble. I did the Xacto work, but,
despite this being a GW game, I left out the spattered red paint.
I found a certain moral value attaining to my use of casualties painted in my
opponents colors (Ultramarines, from the Imperial Dispatches playtest
sessions)..
