Alright...
It's about time I'm make the necessary arrangements for GenCon this year (and
I'm probably running behind when I should have done this).
For those on this list that know or have used the hotel facilities near the
convention site do you have any suggestions or a short review of the
facilities there?
Thanks,
The snickers you hear in the distance are from those who put in requests
shortly after the end of the last GenCon, and are still being housed miles
away from the main site.
I wish I HAD good advice; I'd be taking it myself.
Still, don't know if I'm going to get to Indianapolis.

Checking WOTC's GenCon webpage, most of the close ones were full at the end of
February

Here is Randall Porter's webpage on ancient GenCon Lore. It includes reviews
of hotels and everything else in the area of the con.

I've been at the Hyatt the last couple of years and it is a nice place but I
just snuck in again this year (thanks Allan). Usually I would be rooming with
Mike Miserendino and Bryan Miller (who have a room at the Hilton this year)
but my wife has decided she wants to go with me since we haven't had a decent
vacation together in a few years and she also thinks this will help her
understand me and my obsession with spaceships better. For some reason the
economic reasons of saving money did not sway her from demanding a room for
just the 2 of us.
So if you're interested, you may be able to take my spot with Mike and Bryan
(who I better let know what is going on.) Let me know and maybe something can
be worked out.

Depends on your definition of "full". The Hilton, for instance, is listed on
the GenCon site as having 53 rooms available. Mind you, they are all singles
and I don't know how many are TRULY available.
The Park East also has singles and the Wyndham (is that the fairly expensive
one?) still has doubles. The Park East was reasonable. It has a shuttle to the
hotel, and was an 18 minute walk for me in '96. For that matter, if you have a
car pretty much any hotel is okay since there's a parking garage nearby. (What
was it, US$3 for parking per day? Or as high as US$5? Some parking lots in
Toronto are at about US$15 a day...).

No problem! If your wife is bored, she can catch up with my wife... uh, if she
can find her! *S* Leann will be working the Chaosium booth (the Wizard's
Attic, actually, is who she's working for) during the day and roleplaying
mostly Cthulhu and Vampire games during the evening. Maybe your wife will end
up going over to the Dark Side... *S*
I can recommend against the ambassador hotel though, I got there last year and
I thought the service and maintenance quality of the hotel both sucked. We had
several issues with our room (broken TV, broken remote for broken TV, one of
the shades fell off the wall when I attempted to open the window,
etc...etc...) that went un-answered during the course of our stay last
year.

I second that motion, the Ambassador was terrible. We had a non-smoking
"suite" that smelled like somebody had burned a tobbacco field in it.
Thankfully I was staying with two lawyers, they got us a room across the
street.
