OK I just saw this today at the matinee. First off the most important
part...

I saw the new Star wars trailer. very nice, lots of ground combat, grav tanks
and infantry action. Well worth the five bucks.

Oh yeah and there's Wing Commander tacked on to the end of it.. Lemme just say
that if you took out everything to do with the carrier pilots, their dialogue,
childish non disciplined behavior, relationship to their commanders, and the
dumpy ships they fly, (The game has cooler ships) then paid someone with at
least a day of real time experience in the military ten bucks to rewrite those
parts, it would be a pretty good movie.

No spoilers per say but some details below.

Effects are good though this movie was only made with $27 million. The
fighters look miniature like at times. The capital engagements are good,
though the primary weapon is the 21" Long Lance looking missile (they call
them torpedoes complete with shots of torpedo room like scenes. The naval
battle scenes are definitely WWII in space. there's apparently no PDS they
just evade the missiles by trying to hardturn out of their way.

There are a few cool boarding scenes. (Though of course they are marines led
by the goddamn no time in service fighter pilots!) Not quite as good as
"A
view from the Gallery" or "Severed Dreams". The stories not too bad and all
the older actors do a good job.

There are neat scenes of:

They actually use setbelts on the bridge. The command holotank plot which is
very nice... Fairly good looking capital engagements and the fighter combat
visual themself aren't that bad. Damage Control Parties at work.

The carrier takeoffs and landings are just plain stupid stupid stupid. 1. The
fighters actually dip below deck as they take off ala some WW2 film.

2.They land right into the maintenance hanger, a mater or two away from
mechanics. 3. There's no crash or medical teams on standing by when they
recover!

best thing about the movie? The Soundtrack.

Worst thing about the movie (besides what i said above)? No female mammalian
protuberances. (sorry beth<grin>) Hey it's rated R but I DON'T KNOW WHY? I
figured there's be some nude scenes since it wasn't really that violent and no
one really said F**k that much.

Anyway, it's worth a three dollar matinee or a video rental for sure but Don't
go pay 8 or ten bucks unless you are bored or rich.

Looked like 50's era jets. I was disapppointed.

Hey, for a $27M movie you could ask for more than $10. You may not get it,
mind you, but at least ask.

It was fun. Once. Twice would be too much..

And luring the Kilrathi capital in the way he did at the end was a little too
pat.

You're saying fighter pilots wouldn't make good boarding troops?:)

> They actually use setbelts on the bridge.

The idea is good, the use they made of it was disappointing. To me, that is,
I've been using that visual for ten years (back when I was writing scripts)
and they just didn't think it through.

Hey, they're not pilots, who cares?

It's got to be language, though there wasn't much of that. There is a sex
scene, sort of, in which both participants are clothed (street legal,
"wouldn't think twice about jogging in it" clothed--in fact, I've seen
sexier clothing on some of the local joggers)...BTW it's PG13 not R. I took my
ten year old to it without qualms.

I stopped by the local grocery store this morning and found the "Offical" WC
movie magazine in the news rack. I noticed the following:

The ships and fighters don't look a thing like the ones in any of the games.

The Kilrathi don't look like Kilrathi.

Fox is recycling props. Amoungst a picture of the various weapons used in the
movie I saw....

AN M41A PLUSE RIFLE!!!!! (Somewhere in sci-fi hero heaven,
Hicks is crying.)

What little I have seen, it looks cool.

I've got the whole thing (ADSL rocks). It's worth the download, assuming
you're not seeing something playing with the trailer tonight. This one looks
cooler than anything we've seen yet. neato new starfighters!
