Subject: OT Chupacabra!

(Rousing from a long slumber...)

A while ago there was a rousing discussion among the Chupacabristas on the
list. For those so inclined I submit the following.

Recently received my copy of "Mammalian Mayhem" written by Chris Peers and
published by The Honourable Lead Boiler Suit Company (HLBS).

The rules are a skirmish set covering big game hunting in the Victorian Era,
but only against those animals known to fight back.

Most of the animals are what you would expect. As a bonus, stats for some
pre-historic and cryptozoological (sp?) mammals are included. I am very
pleased to say the Chupacabra is among them.

Haven't tried one yet but my Lakota hunter was savaged by a Grizz my first
time out. Great fun and lots of character to the rules. Simple enough that my
7 year old daughter was able to play the Grizz after little instruction. Of
course she's been playing skirmish games since she was 4, but I think most
kids could pick it up.

Baddawg has nothing but good things to say about the related rules for
dinosaur hunting, "Saurian Safari", which at least can lay some claim to being
Sci Fi and vaguely on topic;)

Regards, Bob

Are you familiar with "Jurassic Hyde Park"?

(Part of the "Pax LImpopo" series)

Have a look at the Brave Lads of the 10th Royal Mechanical Regiment (in
Hardlove Impervious Suits) as they take on a Rampaging Saurian

Yes. Love the figures. In particular the decoy suit.

Has Nic associated any rules with this range other than "Pig Sticker" and the
race game? I've been out of the VicSciFi loop lately so to speak.

I do believe that I kicked that one off: Chupacabras have a part to play in my
urban legend skirmish games....

Do they, ah, recommend any particular miniatures? Strictly an academic

Having come into the legend via X Files, were the depictions apropos? If so,
there may have been a character in the old Star Wars cantina set, as I recall,
that had the right shaped head.

Started getting one of those 'itches' in my memory; SGV-11, the BEM
range, and the Gomi The Miniatures Are Out There range certainly offer
possibilities, if only for fairly simple conversions.

This is the archetypal version:

Seeing as how it *is* an alien (well, of sorts, in theory), this propbably
isn't even entirely OT.

Ok, looks more like SGV-12 with spikes and overdeveloped toe-nails. On
the
other hand, my fuzzy recollections of non-X-Files details seem to
include
relatively short stature. Along the lines of SGV-12, who seems
relatively large next to true 25mm humans, might be appropriate with an Evil
Empire(tm) brutish human.

*shrug* Dunno; seems on topic if we're trying to match GZG products, no?

Sadly no. At least not for the Chupacabra.

They're about the size of the goats that they prey upon, allegedly. And

since I'm mainly using Copplestone/Foundry 28mm minis, the size would
likely
not be a problem. Is there a picture of SGV-12 available? I can't get
to the.pdf until this evening, but I couldn't find anything on the main GZG
page.

> *shrug* Dunno; seems on topic if we're trying to match GZG products,

They are aliens, after all. And an SGII game pitting modern soldiers against
Greys and Chupacabras wouldn't be much of stretch, really.

As a semi-digression, I've got a bunch of Lance and Laser 28mm Greys
painted up, and I'm happy with them...but having seen the ones that
Copplestone and (especially) Griffen have produced? I really wish that I'd
waited.

Ah, well...different castes of Greys, I suppose.

I was looking at the catalog PDF's; can't find it anywhere else. Sorry.

Do you remember Lord Kimbo from the weird X Files episodes? Looks sort of like
that.

Having seen the picture...it might work, it might indeed! I'll have to order a
sample when I finally get around to making a GZG order.

Thanks!
