Wanna trade idea notes? (The REALLY sad part is I've never actually played the
game. I managed to watch about half of two sessions, but I was running a
gaming guild at the time and couldn't play because I was busy orginizing the

During the Napoleonic wars there were a number of Irish Regiments that weren't
from Ireland. The Spanish fielded three; Hibernia, Urlanda and
Ultonia; they drew recruits from ex-patriate Irish.

No reason why there cannot be an Irish Guard Regiment or Battalion in the NAC
regardless of how the question of Irish unity is resolved or where Republic of
Ireland ends up.

Ask and you shall recieve.

I took some BAD scans of my primed UNSC BB and placed them
at http://www.ftsr.org/ft/display/gallery.asp. They are the
last 2 pictures on the page. I have not yet painted it, so it is just in

primer. But I hope it helps.

Actually after posting I rechecked Geo-Hex's web site.
They have a picture of it (MUCH Better than mine).
Go to http://www.geohex.com/ftssunsc1.htm and click on the
camera icon to see a picture of the ship.

Also, if you are in North America, Geo-Hex is running some
deals on GZG Spaceship "Fleet Packs" (see

Also note there are more Irish American's than there are Irish Irishmen.

Being Irish is more than just having citizenry in one small island
nation -
it transendes boundries. The same can't be said for being an American as US
Customs will point out at the border...

Hey all, there's a convention in Mission BC in February called CONspiracy. I'm
thinking on running a few GZG games there. Most likely SGII and Full Thrust.
If there are any others in the area that might show up I can change the format
so you can bring in your own armies and fleets. I'd just write up some
missions and senarios and we'd play off those.

The original table was the first five lines of this:

Range To Hit Damage Avg dmg:
0-6 MU 6+ 6 "beam" dice 0.8
6-12 5+ 5 dice 1.33
12-18 4+ 4 dice 1.6
18-24 3+ 3 dice 1.6
24-30 2+ 2 dice 1.33
30-36 1+ 1 die 0.8

If all you do is reverse the "to hit number" and "damage" columns so
you hit on 1+ but inflict 1 die at range 0-6, and hit on 6+ but inflict
6 dice at range 30-36, the average damages in each range band is
exactly the same as in the table above. OK, you "reverse" it, but since it is
symmetric the end result is the same anyway. Therefore, once the version above
is correctly balanced, the reversed version will automatically be balanced as
well.

Schoon commented:

> Not entirely true. Statistically, you're spot on. However, I find

Um... well. In my experience this is true in Vector, but in Cinematic it is
only true *as long as both sides use the standard human FB1 weapons*. If one
(or both) sides use weapons which don't degrade with range, eg. the Phalon
Pulsers, the pattern changes quite noticably.

I think this is because with range-degraded weapons (eg. all the human
weapons), both sides gain firepower from closing the range - and thus
it is rare for either side to make a real effort to keep the range open. In
relative terms, FSE ships gain more beam firepower than NSL ones by closing
from range 13 to range 11, even though the FSE is
outgunned die-for-die at both ranges.

If OTOH one side has the firepower advantage at longer ranges but is outgunned
up close (eg. pulsers set to M or L vs human beams), it
doesn't gain anything at all from closing the range - and therefore has
a strong incentive to stay some distance away. Unless it is seriously
out-engined or has its main weapons in single-arc (F) mounts (like NAC
P-torps...), it is usually able to keep the range open for long enough
to affect the outcome of the battle (assuming Cinematic, that is). Not
necessarily long enough to *win*, but definitely enough to have a noticable
impact.

(In the case of Phalons with all pulsers set to "C" fighting just about
anyone else, it *is* IME enough to give the longer-ranged fleet the
victory. To date, no all-C Phalon fleet has won a single battle in my
group - not even on very restricted tables.)

All of which means that tactical truths found out when using human
range-degrading weapons and engines need to be taken with a fair pinch
of salt when applied to weapons with other range-damage profiles :-/

I`m thinking of altering some submisions to the ftsr, and want to ask for
opinons about this SD design?

ACID SD

Replace the plasma guns with all (6 arc) pulsers, limited to close range only.
8x3 arc plasma guns (torps), mass=48, cost=144 12x6*arc Cl.1 range pulsers,
mass=48, cost=???

I`m asking for opinons about using plusers with only Cl.1 range (not
tuneable), and in the novels, the weapons were not very effective against
fighters, so if using the PDS rules for Cl.1 bats as a god analogy, what cost
would be reasonable?

*I`m working from memory, and think it`s 4 mass for 6 arc. Anybody want to get
close to this thing (72 die at once?).

Has anybody tried using the old SPI/AH 'Freedom in the Galaxy' as a

More-or-less unique in that it provides scenarios for anything from
space fleet battles to commando raids. Now, if I just could find the time...

Hi guys

Just letting you know that I have finally put together a web site. (groan not
a nother one) Probably of most interest to people on this list are my rules
for
bio-technolog
y aliens in DS2. So have a look and tell me what you think.(I can take
it...well maybe)

P.S.
oh and the look of the page is some what unusual for a wargame site:)
