I've got the Battlefleet Gothic Rulebook in front of me, anyone got anything
they want to know?
It arrived yesterday, I was late home, I can't answer questions on anything
other than the rulebook _yet_.
First impressions.
Very nicely packaged, much better than, say, 40K 3rd edition.
The rulebook contains rules (doh!), advanced rules, 10 scenarios, modelling
guide, background to the Gothic Sector with Chaos attacks led by Abaddon,
campaign rules, and details on 14 Imperial ships, 14 Chaos ships, Blackstone
Fortress, 6 Eldar ships, 6 Ork ships, fighters, bombers, boarding craft,
orbital defences, ground installations, minefields etc.

Yeah... when is my copy going to come in. ;-)

Oh man... I can't wait for this.

14 Imperial ships, 14 Chaos ships

Half of these, at least in the Getting Started book, are configured using the
plastic figs in the box set. It's already been mentioned that you get two
basic models, one for Imperial and one Chaos, four figs of each, and a number
of bits such as flight bays, turrets, and antennas to customize the various
ship classes.
Whoops, just realized I forgot to notice if they have the different prow
detail of eagle, sword, or winged skull.
As some are only differentiated by using antennas in various patterns, I'm
fairly certain from GW's track record that this is temporary until they can
roll out the individual figs.
'Sorry, that's not a Dictator Class any more, this $20, 3 inch
is now the only legal Dictator!' Oh, yeah, that'll convince me. ;->=
Anybody desirous of playing me will be expecting to see old Gothic Imp and
orginal Eldar ships flying in my Eldar fleet.
AND not surprised to see all of the above running under FT rules.

Well, I said earlier it was 'crammed'. Let me qualify that with 'compared to
other GW boxes'. I was especially thinking of things like Ultramarines, the
boxed game of scouts. *head shaking*
There's air in this box, but not more than I'd complain about.
The_Beast
PS. Save your Epic Eldar 'bomberz'. Not saying the Darkstar or Eagle will be
the same model, but close enough in my mind's eye.
Have to wait and see about 'size' issues.
Hmm. Almost -- almost -- makes me wish I'd preordered BFG from GW, but
I figured that there wasn't enough of a discount to make it worth taking the
profit away from the local store. So I'll have to work something out with the
store owner; I'm due to leave to help him paint ships for Saturday's
demo.... ^_^
(And, looking back at the above, that's not meant as a slam for anyone who
did preorder the box set -- I just don't like direct ordering from GW.
Hmm, for that matter I suppose some of you might not've, though if you
didn't why didn't you share where you were ordering from? ^_- )

What's the name of it - something hilarious like "Bigga Drilla"?
I know I am going to get some flack for this, but....
I bought the GW two fleet deal. You get the BFG box set, 3 blisters of Cobras.
3 Blisters of Idolators, a Retributor battleship, a Desolator battleship. You
also get a choice of either geting 2 Blackstone Fortresses, or a Blackstone
and a Battleship. You also get a lot of mine, fighter, and bomber minis. As
well as a nice looking pewter pin.
I went for this deal mainly because I need this minis for my Gothic Thrust
game at GenCon. All of this stuff came today! I'm in the process of sorting
through and assempbling this stuff. Right now I'm in hog heaven.
I'll give you a more detailed look later, but I'm somewhat preoccupied. I've
got an fleet to construct!

Sorry, but what GW two fleet deal is this? This sounds extremely interesting.
Can I have some more details? Always interested in package deals. Thanks.

I've obviously gone a little fuzzy on the 'deal'. I thought you had your
choice of the original box plus stuff to make a larger fleet, either Imperial
OR Chaos.
I'm pretty certain it was a pre-release offer, and, in US, $120-$130.
Whatever, I wasn't that impressed with cost 'savings', but Mark's right, good
way to get a large block of figs fast. I'm jealous of the pin, though.
;->=
As for flack, if you mean buying mail order or local, it's GW that should get
the flack for undercutting they're distribution. You go, guy.
I did buy my copy direct from local guy. You gotta love, and support, a guy
that sez, 'here, Doug, I don't need these...' and 'these' turn out to be a
fair-sized unit of Citadel Melibonean cavalry.

Mark, have you gotten anything worked up for posting about your new rules
variation, or are you going foist 'em on the players without a warning?
;->=
I think I've seen hints here and there, but, after a psuedo-demo on Sat
of
GW's rules, I think I'd like to have some FT-based ones to show folks.

I reckon someone's pulling your leg, there aren't any ships with drill bits
for noses.
***
Well, SpaceFleet had an Imperial ship with a drill bit coming out of a 'mouth'
at the prow. And two claws on other side. Truly sick, and would do fair as an
Ork vessel.
The Ork Hulk picture built by Chambers has a claw on one side, and an
extendible missle rack on the other; pleasant to see bits of the old
SpaceFleet line (Tyrant tail, for one) carried into the new, even if only as
garbage.
I wonder how many folks will pick up on the part of 'you can build your
own...'

yah! what i've been wondering is this: are there any features which BFG
has but which FT/MT/FB doesn't? i suppose i really mean features which
aren't totally GW-specific: i don't much care if FT lacks rules for
Chaos' Vominator Warp Fragmentor Cannon, as it's blatantly just another GW
penis extension. otoh, sensor rules for fighters are something we lack at the
moment.
"the good general, knowing the weaknesses of his enemy and himself, cannot
be defeated" - sun tzu never actually wrote that, but you'd never know.

I've already got most of the rules posted:
http://www.uwm.edu/~cthulhu/FT/gothrust.htm
I still have to work out ramming and torpedo rules, and come up with FT
versions of the ships. But they should be done in time.

Actually, the only Really Big Weapons are the Inferno Cannon (surprisingly
tame, given what it could do in Space Fleet) and a powered-up Blackstone

shields. <shrug>

No, nothing like that. The whole premise of the game, as I quoted Andy
Chambers way back when, is "keep it simple." And, for a GW game, it is. (Okay,
I guess that's a trend recently. Whatever.) Oh, some of the optional rules get
a bit into fiddly charts and rolls, but apart from that there's not much to
look up IMO, no more than there is for Full Thrust. There's no prewritten
movement, which was a plus in Andy's eyes, and a minus in mine for the most
part. (There are times I don't care
much....)

How about rules for gravity wells? The BFG stuff in the latest WD, including a
replay, seems to indicate that slingshot manoeuvres are not only possible but
important. And, unless my memory is totally shot
(quite possible; it's exam-writing time and my brain is frazzled), I
don't remember FT including that sort of thing -- orbits, yes, but not
slingshots and the like (if it's been there all the time and I've forgotten
it, sorry, Jon).
An observation: the map/table for the BFG replay has a fair amount of
"terrain" on it -- an asteroid field, two gas clouds (or something
similar) and a planet and its moon. Crowded, huh?
