To put it all in perspective for all of us in the
US/Canada/Australia/Germany/Sweden/New Zealand, Look
on the bright side: We're not living in North Korea, for starters. Sure, we
don't always like what our government does, but there's a hell of a lot more
we can do about it than some people on this marble....

Well done! You've just gotten the atheist in the foxhole to say 'amen'! Natch,
he'd make the 'some' to 'damn near all'.

I happen to be living through this "process". True Democracy in action. Makes
me pine for a monarchy (of course I would be in the peerage)

Good to make fun of yourself; you notice, too often, people doing sca always
see themselves as the upper crust. 'How come there are no peasants?'
'They all work at ren faires...' ;->=

The more intelligent SCA'ers will cheerfully admit that they only
re-create "the nicer bits" of the past... I always wonder why none of
them ever take a begging leper as a character...

Are you going to launch into a speech about the ownership of the means of
production now?:>

I still pining for the fjords but then it's hot in Texas....) Really though as
for the True Democracy out yonder, makes one understand why the founders chose
to be a representative republic with "regular elections. Although I think the
gal that runs the strip club can't do a worse job than half the elected
officials in there now. At least when you give her your money and have regrets
later your too proud or embarrassed to make a fuss...)

Supreme authority comes from a mandate of the masses, not some farcical
aquatic ceremony. Look, if I went around calling myself emperor just because
some moistened bint thrust a scimitar at me, they'd lock me away!

Nope, I happen to like strange women laying in ponds distributing swords. It
has distinct advantages over many current forms of
government........)
