Please excuse my ignorance of fashion(?) terms:

What is a "Basque" supposed to be here?

The only meanings I can think of for Basques are a) that unruly people between
France and Spain b) the beret commonly worn by those guys.

Neither of which really seems to prompt the idea of 'cute female figures'.

Ahh, yes. Corsets....likely to bring lurking goths out for a peek.

Basque Corsets are a style of full length corset. Generally overbust in form.
In contrast to an Elizabethan corset, they don't tend to
de-emphasize the bust.
