A question to our Australian friends.
I have been watching the Olympics (congratulations to all those winners out
there!).
The sports dress of most nations' teams include the color of their flag in
their design.
Strangely, the Australians wear green and yellow, which do not appear in their
national colors. I also have seen fans decked out in green and yellow.
Can somebody from down under enlighten me about those colors? I guess it is
not just the whim of a designer?
Greetings Karl Heinz

Not of Oz, myself, though I've friends AND family, I did see the following
comments concerning a posible Aussie Republic flag.
"However, to keep our traditional green and gold sporting colours..."
Haven't found anything else on the subject, though...

I've never seen Australian teams in any other colours. The first explanation
that I could Google up is:
"Just a note on the colours for Australia. Traditionally, green and gold (well
actually, bright yellow but gold sounds better!) are Australia's sporting
colours. That is what you'll see any
patriotic Australian wearing (at the games, teams, etc.) - green
for the land and gold for sun and surf. The Olympic team uniform has been
toned down to teal green and beige but the spirit of the original colours are
still there."

If Aussies picked green and gold for the land and sun, what made
the Kiwis go for all-black?
