Jon,
After looking through the list of playtesters for Full Thrust I noticed the
name "Mary Gentile".
Is this the same Mary that writes Sci-Fi/Fantasy books like the Ash
series or Grunts?
Just curious,

Yes. Her partner, Dean Wayland, is also involved.

WOW!!! She writes some great books!! It may seem impossible but finding out
that she plays Jon's games moves her up quite a few notches in my

Kewl!!

Actually that's "Gentle"....

Yes, that's the one! Mary's been a good friend and occasional gaming opponent
for many years
-
she's also a mean swordfighter..... ;-)

WHAT? She fences, plays wargames, and is a writer?!?!?!?!?
I think I'm in love....sigh........

Mary is firmly attached. And if she wasn't, there'd be a fairly long
queue.... <GRIN>
She doesn't do fencing as such - between her and Dean, her SO, they run
The Fight School, which teaches people a realistic form of fighting with
replica weapons (European and Oriental styles) for fun and for display
purposes. Watching Mary with sword and buckler is fascinating, but watching
Dean with a katana is scary - especially as he's registered as blind and
normally carries a white stick...... They also run an airsoft club, doing a
lot of running around woods and bunkers with AK47s and such. Oh, and just to
top it off, she writes Porn for women, too.... <BIGGER GRIN>

This is the way it ALWAYS is with women of that caliber.

Sounds like Dead is one of those hyper-sensed individuals. I had the
honor of teaching a legally blind person Hikuta... She had an uncanny talent
that enabled her to know what you were going to do before YOU knew it.

Sounds like neat people! Sounds like we have a lot in common, love to meet
them. Bet they live across the pond, eh?
> Oh, and just to top it off, she writes Porn for women,
Ummmm.... That's one thing I don't do... At least not publicly.... <snicker>

You might also want to look at http://www.grunts.org.uk/, which is the
site about their pigs. Really. Kune Kunes...

"Roxanne Morgan".
Is the Fight School in any way related to the Exiles or the Company of
Maisters?

Not to my knowledge - at least I've never heard of either of them.

That's the one - Mary's pen-name for the smut stuff, published by X
Libris.
And jolly filthy it is too! :-)
Of course, I only study it for research purposes - the fact that I have
a signed set of the books is entirely irrelevant.....

You're going to *eat* Gilly?
Er... does John K. know about this...?

Actually, Jon will probably clarify, but this is what I got from his original
post:
It seems to me that the animals are probably cared for on the farm and NOT
eaten. By buying a 1/6 share in Gilly's "Adoption," I'm assuming John
donate(s/d) funds to the farm for Gilly's care, and in part gets to view
Gilly as partly "His" pig, not his lunch. ;-)

Piglets are cute and fun, however a 500 lb (what ~230Kg?) hog is no longer
cute or fun.

Which is why I'm guessing the "adopted" animal is left on a farm, not actually
sent to the "adopting" individual. But that's my guess, I could be wrong. It
seems similar to how you can sponsor children through international relief
organizations. I "adopted" a child that way, but she
never showed up on my doorstep - she was still cared for in Kenya, I
merely sent a check to the agency and received letters from the child and
updates from the organization on how she was doing.

Would that be why they call them boars?

Rand. (Who hasn't hammed it up lately, but is definitely bacon for it.)

You know, I sent the Narns over to Tomb earlier over a private e-mail.
They're just warming up, I wouldn't incite them if I were you.....

still.......)

As for the rest of the puns they were lame and predictable. This soon after
the long stream of sheep puns this no longer has the power to elicite groans
or amusement, just minor annoyance.
> Jon T. wrote:
No, they're very, very much NOT for eating..... they are all "pet pigs", kept
on an open farm that takes paying visitors (a farm zoo, effectively). It all
started with Mary and Dean "rescuing" some pigs that were being disposed of by
(IIRC) an agricultural college, and they found homes for them on the open
farm. Since then, pigs being pigs, several litters of
piglets have followed, hence the adopt-a-pig scheme to help pay for the
keep of the growing sty-full....... ;-)

Which is *very* fortunate for Gilly... if Jon has adopted 1/6 of her,
that
means that someone else must've adopted the other 5/6th... so sending
her to the "adopting" individuals would be rather messy! <g>

You've heard of porkchops, haven't you?:>
Actually, having just spent an amusing few minutes going thru Mary Gentle's
piggie site, these are emphatically NOT animals destined for anyone's dinner
plate.
Besides, they're too blasted big for anything but the full medieval giant
platter with apple in mouth!
Vaguely On Topic reference: You could do interesting urban/stone camo on
vehicles by copying the patterns on some of the piggie pictures on Mary's
website. (Hey, I'll try to stay on topic...)
I doubt John K. even blinked at Gilly the pig. Let's see if we can get him
(re)tell the story about the worst request for use of Gilly...
