Subject: [OT] another campaign system suggestion
All right. This specific angle may have been visited in past discussions, but I have not looked at the archive yet (partly because I cannot remember where its home is...). I stumbled across the Avalaon Hill game "Flat Top" over the weekend in a bargain rack and picked it up out of curiosity. It seems a pretty nice and complete rendition of the W.W.II naval battles of the South Pacific, in classic die cut counter Avalon Hill form. It has some interesting rules for observation, hidden task forces, weather patterns,... I do not play FT - just Dirtside and dabble in the rare SG encounter - but I got to thinking about the occasional "campaign system" discussion that pops up. There appears to be a lot here that could translate pretty easily. And if you wanted to "zoom in" for a specific action and carry it out with your minis, I cannot imagine why that would not work. Anyone try this game before? Am I way off base? Just hoping that I can inspire someone to a useful idea. This also got me thinking about the subject of computer games for the GZG settings/rules. The area of strategic level, well above set battles, may be a good avenue for computerized investigation. It may not step on miniature play, since its scope and focus would be well beyond individual miniature battles. Another random thought whilst driving for hours up I-57...
