Subject: Ortillery Monitors
Posit: We want fast reaction time from our ortillery.
Solution: Get low and slow - powered orbit control - get down to 400
miles. Assumptions: 1) Previous elimination of all known defences 2) ECM and
fighter cover to help suppress any new ones that crop up Design: 1) Should
have thrust 4 and full streamlining or thrust 6 and partial as you will be
inside what I'd call the atmospheric envelope at the appropriately low level.
2) Should have a tough hull and armour.
3) Should be a dedicated vessel - and not overlarge for the task.
Risking it by bringing it into firing range means you don't want to lose too
many crew if it gets smoked (same argument for landers that hold no more than
a company).
