I posted this once before but got no response, so I decided to try again just
in case anyone missed it. Anyone going to Orccon on the 16th of this month? I
and a group of friends will be down there from Friday until Sunday, and we
should have a couple of Kra'Vak fleets, ESU fleets, and maybe one or two
others. I haven't seen anything about a FT tournament at this con, but we'd
like to throw some ships on the table against anyone who's going to be there.

As the person that has hosted the last few tournaments, I can tell you I will
not be attending. I decided to not run any future FT tournaments at
Strategicon events. There was not enough interest or attendance after running
tournament at Five separate conventions, over a three year period.
For the last several KR at Geo-Hex was very helpful in supplying prizes
and playing aids. Even with prizes, turnout was low. In the end, I decided it
wasn't worth my time or KR's time and money. Maybe it's because GW seems to
own the miniatures room. Maybe it's too expensive to attend, those cons. For
what ever the reason, I'll be directing my energy elsewhere.

Scott,

Just curious, what days and what times were you hosting your games?

I ask because I have often wondered if games offered at certain times or days
have less draw then others. When I walk the Mini room I see certain systems
seem to dominate the floor space. I see the Warhammers, Battletech, ACW, and
W.W.II games. I have seldom seen anything else. I remember how sad I was when
the only Stargrunt game about a year ago was a closed game.

Working with the Con as a volunteer I am sad to see anyone give up. Maybe you
could just show up and play? Tournaments can be a lot of work but the con will
be poorer if the mini room is reduced to just the "major" genre.

That's too bad. All four of us were looking forward to playing some FT there
this year, and those of us who played in your last tournament really enjoyed
it. Oh well, maybe I'll give Dundracon a shot next year (although historically
Dundracon has been more geared toward RPG's rather than wargames).
