Does anybody ever use the Out-Rim Coalition? I know that SSDs just
recently got posted, but I was wondering if anyone has actually used them
(specifically the models) at all...? Also I've noticed that it seems that most
everyone uses predominately human fleets? does anyone ever actually use the
alien fleets?
I can't speak to the ORC, but one of my regular FT buddies uses a Kra'vak
fleet to GREAT effect. Fer instance, I jumped out of lightspeed right in front
of her 3 shipz tonight: you may have heard her cackling
as far away as whereever you are ;-)

I have a small fleet of the ORC ships, but due to the huge number of ships I
have in general to play with, they have not yet made it to the
table (plus I'm not 100% happy with the paint scheme I have for them :-/
)
Yeah I know they're human... I was mainly wondering about them... then it
occured to me that I don't hear much from alien race players...
Here's another one for you... what's the usual game size limits that most
people play with? Do most people go by a set amount of mass or cost? or do you
spend a few minutes going back and forth trying to determine what everyone
considers to be balanced forces?

I keep meaning to try SV.

If I do it, we use CPV. If Josh does it, we use NPV and I try to make sure we
have comparable ship sizes. We usually don't use point for victory
determination, so we don't generally use uneven forces. If we did, we'd say to
multiply VP of the smaller force by the square of the
ratio--eg if you have a 1300 CPV fleet squaring off against a 900,
then (1300/900)^2 = 2.08, so the the 900pt force would multiply its
final score by 2.
(Josh wishes to point out that "balanced" games are inherently
unbalanced in my favor, as I have some evil control over the dice--for
instance, I've won initiative on every turn but one of the last three games,
and that one was at extreme range with only a point or so of damage done by
either side. This is an absurd accusation, of course, so I'll merely reply
with a "Baa!". And perhaps "Fnord.")

Speaking of which, does anyone have updated FB1 and FB2 fonts?
You know Chris... just because of you, I've been toying around with a sheep
themed fleet... I just haven't gotten around to doing some
SSDs....
The Flock of the Interstellar Shepard, Transcendant AKA the F.I.S.T. of God.
All of the ships have large white hulls with small black bridge areas...
except for the Blaaack Sheep Squaaadron.... and of course, the fighters
are called lambs... which naturally means the Carriers are Ewe-Boats....
the heavier fighting ships, like battleships and dreadnaughts are Rams.... and
their weapons are laid out in pairs... usually firing
forward....
damage done by either side. This is an absurd accusation, of course, so I'll
merely reply with a "Baa!". And perhaps "Fnord.")
G'day,
> does anyone ever actually use the alien fleets?
We've played a bit with all 3 of the FB races (I like Savasku, Derek has a
tonne of Phalons and two other local lads have sizeable Kra'Vak fleets).
> Here's another one for you... what's the usual game size limits
When not playing campaign games or specific scenarios we usually just
cop out and play points battles - we still use NPV as (a) I'm lazy (<g>)
and (b) we are there for fun and never usually work out who won or did what to
who (unless it's a playtest game). As for the number of points that's usually
whim of time and what is avaiable (or newly painted and
begging to see the table). Typically its about 1500-2500 points a piece,
though we can go as small as 300-400 or as high as 15000+ points each
(when we have a day to play). One fun variant is to have a single 1000 point
(or whatever) ship each.
Cheers

I've got a .gif image of the Phalon-specific systems at my FT page:

Sorry, not a font; there is an FT font called "FT3Font" (by Channing Faunce
backin 1998 according to our list archives), but it's not on the
web anymore, it seems. It's human-only, no SV/PH/KV.
I've actually done a bit of reading into font design lately, and I think that
unless you go into the obscure characters (the ones found by typing
"ALT+xxx" in Windows) you won't have enough slots in a font-set to
include
all FB1/FB2 systems in a single font - you'd have to go with one per
race, probably.
If anyone feels fontish and wants to use my PH gif as a starting point for a
PH font, please feel free!

Those Ram-class ships are, of course, baaa-tleships. Or perhaps just
battlesheeps.
Didn't someone (GZG?) do Welsh In Space battlesheep minis? Or am I
hallucinating more than usual tonight?

The "sheep" meme continues to spread....

Their banner undoubtedly has the Agnus Dei.

You may be hallucinating more than usual, but not on this topic. Brigade has
Welsh ships:

I've got that one, but I usually use Andrew Ayres' FTSC program instead. But
that only has human tech.
Greetings,
Well, beside my NAC fleet, I have a KraVak and even play them, but s the
cruisers and up are not finished, I'm kind of limited in the choice of
engagements.
We usually play on point limit size, but also try to match classes, so if
someone brings a BB we make sure that everyone has at least a heavy cruiser.
So we try to balance, even if the game is fairly balanced.
Greetings,
Catinator

***Games have limits? Seriously we use the balanced forces idea and just scale
up or down depending. In campaigns we tend to do before hand map allocation
which is turned over to the umpire. This is my favorite method and the most
realistic and by far the most military.

Can you expand on this, Don?

No, you're not imagining things more than normal :-)
We make a Welsh fleet, mainly because one of the Brigadiers, Phil, is part
Welsh and just felt like doing it
